Joystiq has learned that the previously rumored remake of Halo: Combat Evolved will indeed launch this holiday season for Xbox 360 with a full visual overhaul. Sources explain that the re-release is not Bungie's 2001 Xbox game simply running at a higher resolution -- it's being remade with new art assets. While Halo's audio will likely remain unaltered, the controls will allow for more recent Halo configurations. The Halo: Combat Evolved remake is allegedly being developed by New Jersey-based Saber Interactive, the company behind TimeShift and Namco's upcoming Inversion, but we've been unable to confirm the nature of the engine powering it. We understand that it's something other than the Reach engine. The Halo: Combat Evolved update, one of two Halo games currently in development under the watchful eye of 343 Industries, is expected to support 1080p resolution and 3D televisions. Details on multiplayer are supposedly still being worked out, but we understand the remake will likely feature online co-op (the original game supported two-player split-screen co-op). The game is expected to re-evolve on November 15, 2011, ten years after Halo: Combat Evolved launched alongside the Xbox. Our sources didn't know of any plans to similarly upgrade the recently disconnected Halo 2, but it's hard to imagine Microsoft playing favorites with its biggest franchise.
Source
They should just call it Halo: Combat theexactsameasitwasinthefirstgame.
halo: combat evolved HD would work
They should just call it Halo: Combat theexactsameasitwasinthefirstgame.
They did that already, except for a better marketing, Bungie called it "Halo 3".
cool, i remember playing halo for the first time on an xbox when the only things i'd played were playstations. thought it was the best game ever, i remember the graphics being awesome back then as well.
AW YEAH /caps This is the Halo game I've been wanting. The on that started it all, with today's graphics. They had better stick to the original..well, everything. It had better feel like Halo: CE, but look like Reach.' We shall see though. If it's any good, I'll have a reason to bust out my old 360 once again.
This is actually good news, but hopefully it won't have terrible matchmaking.
scratch that.
As long as it's only a Graphical update and they left the gameplay part alone
Usually I would be against remakes of the same game, but a remake of Halo CE with proper multiplayer and co-op is something I've always wanted. Quite happy that this rumour is infact true.
As long as it's only a Graphical update and they left the gameplay part alone
My thoughts exactly.
Why is this necessary, Combat Evolved is still far and above the best Halo game
Cool, I never beat halo 1 Or halo 2 Or halo 3
I remember i preferred to play the halo 1 multiplayer to any other first person shooter multiplayer at that time. It just was awesome with all the vehicles and stuff.
Halo: Custom Edition is still the best halo game ever. If it was for PC id buy it in a heartbeat.
Here's to hoping we get a PC Port. (Knowing Microsoft, this will probably never happen but one can hope)
It better be on PC :argh:
"Pay us $60 to play the same damn game with a fresh coat of paint!"
Online Co-op? Sweet. I really hope they add online competitive multiplayer too. I've been wanting this, but the PC version's multiplayer is a joke.
yet another goldeneye wii did they not see how badly that turned out?
I hope you people who will be buying this aren't people who criticize people for buying CoD games since they're the same thing every year. I said people too many times.
Halo: Custom Edition is still the best halo game ever. If it was for PC id buy it in a heartbeat.
It is on the PC. Unless you mean something different? Whoops misread. I mean Halo: Custom Edition, silly me.
These are supposed insider sources. Not official.
I love Halo 1, the PC online community is still very much alive nearly 10 years later
I hope you people who will be buying this aren't people who criticize people for buying CoD games since they're the same thing every year. I said people too many times.
Although it is somewhat true, this remake seems like it will actually have something different from the original. From what is posted, it seems online Co-op might be introduced (which wasn't in the original) as well as the addition of online multiplayer (which also wasn't on the xbox version), and obviously updated graphics to support 1080p. This is partly why I could justify buying this game over buying another CoD release.
Silent Cartographer in HD mmmm
This is and always will be my favorite halo game...actually, the only halo game I liked. I'm interested in where they'll be taking this. I hope they don't change too much.
It is on the PC. Unless you mean something different?

launch this holiday season for Xbox 360
Release for PC with mod tools.
As long as it's only a graphical update and the gameplay is 100% UNCHANGED then I would consider buying it.
