http://www.waff.com/story/27572267/tamir-rice-family-files-federal-lawsuit

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Tamir Rice's family spoke to local media for the first time Monday. Tamir, 12, was shot by police at the Cudell Recreation Center last month. According to police, Tamir was holding a toy gun and did not raise his hands when commanded. "On Nov. 22nd, two little boys knocked on my door and said the police just shot your son in the stomach two times," said Samaria Rice. Regardless of it was a BB gun, that shit looks almost identical to a real one. GG.
The thing that always seems fishy about this is, how come white mass murderers often seem to be apprehended safely, whilst black criminals (or innocents) almost invariably die? The police literally saw this kid playing with something that looked like a gun and he didn't put his hands up quickly enough, then they shot him. This perhaps isn't as clear-cut as the Eric Garner case, but I'd still say that these cops made a monumental fuckup. [editline]8th December 2014[/editline] I try to base my thoughts on the facts. I'm still not decided about Mike Brown, I form opinions on a case-by-case basis. But I still think they were in the wrong for shooting him here.

You're in an incredibly high crime area You're told that someone has a gun. You see a person with a gun. You tell them to drop the gun/put their hands up They don't listen. They start waving it around erratically. I'm pretty sure that you'd get shot to death regardless of race, nice try though.

Yeah, he was 12, and it was a bb gun. But it looks real enough and the kid really should have listened and put his hands up. Usually cops also announce their presence when telling you to do things. It's tragic, but could have been prevented if the parents didn't raise their kid like shit. Who the fuck gives a kid a firearm eithout knowing the kid is capable of having it responsibly.
a 12 year old kid got shot let's all talk about how he deserved to die (User was banned for this post ("terrible post" - Orkel))
That looks like one of the BB guns I had from my childhood. Back in the 90's and before, BB and Pellet guns didn't have any marker at the end to signify that they were toys.
I think the reason why they are suing is because the officer had already been fired from a previous job because he failed at gun safety... Thats like hiring a pedaphile at a daycare center, the cops should have done a better job of vetting him
The cop still deserves a huge pay dock, with a good probability to lose his job. He shot a fucking 12 year old. Either he has the mind of a psycho and can still continue his job as normal, or he's so emotionally distraught he won't be able to perform his duty efficiently. I don't give a shit what you fucks say, if he comes out of this not emotionally damaged he has some serious issues.
a 12 year old kid got shot let's all talk about how he deserved to die
No one is saying he deserved to die, the argument is were the cops acting in an appropriate manner and was the shots the officer took justified. Given all the circumstances, it appears the cops were acting correctly. It sucks that some kid died but even a kid can kill someone if he has a gun.

Their attacks are premeditated and carefully planned. Often they do not carry guns.
a 12 year old kid got shot let's all talk about how he deserved to die
Literally nobody is saying he deserved to die. We're saying the cop reacted to the situation as best they could, because the kid was, by all appearances, armed and a massive threat to the cop's life.
a 12 year old kid got shot let's all talk about how he deserved to die
Oversimplification much?

It's like saying all plane flights are dangerous because the news only reports the crashes and not the successful landings.
a 12 year old kid got shot let's all talk about how he deserved to die
Are you serious Is he serious?
Are you serious Is he serious?
He's serious, just ignore him and he'll go away. Maybe.

It's not like cops have a hard on for killing people, but if you have some kind of weapon, and an officer tells you to drop it. You should probably do so, 12 year olds are able to understand that.
If I even shot a deer I'd have remorse for it for weeks. Don't see how anyone can go without feeling remorse for killing a 12 year old, no matter how justified. Even if he was about to set off a nuke I'd still have nightmares about it.

It of course flew out of my grip when I fired it and hit the deer in the abdomen. So then we spent over an hour tracking the deer through the forestry before we finally found where it had bled to death. That was 15 years ago and I still have nightmares.
Good. He was 12, for fuck's sake. The 911 caller even said he didn't believe the gun was real, but the incompetent dispatcher didn't seem to think that information was worth relaying to the officers. He was never given a chance to drop it. The cops got out of the car and he was on the ground bleeding out two seconds later. The kid never even knew what happened. Maybe he was going to throw the gun away. Maybe he was going to hold it in the air and tell the police it wasn't real. I guess we'll never know, because the cops' first, last, and only option for dealing with "armed" black men is lethal force. But, hey, have fun with the victim-blaming, guys. It's what this place is best at.

The city should counter sue the parents for not teaching their child not to point/wave their "toy" gun at people, especially the police. If you watch the video of the shooting, they don't even give the kid a change to drop the gun. They Drive up a shoot him within seconds. Honestly cops need to held to a higher standard. Whatever punishment a citizen gets for committing a crime, a cop should get twice as harsh a punishment.

It would be nice if he had the dash cam which would have the audio on it.
Yes cops live in a stressful world, but they are fucking trigger happy. Related video that puts this in perspective just so you all can understand how QUICKLY they can resort to lethal force.
In case anyone is wondering, this is a common occurrence for police officers/departments when they take the life of anther. Just because you're cleared criminally does not mean that you are home free. The threat of a civil lawsuit hangs over your head.
