So yesterday's Republican Debate was Kind Of A Disaster

If you think the Republican Primary could not get uglier, you clearly did not tune into yesterday's CBS debate!
Want to see the damage done? Let's take a look at the headlines!
First of all, the Donald was unhinged, even by his own standards:
Trump crosses the 9/11 line
http://www.politico.com/story/2016/02/trump-9-11-debate-219273
“The World Trade Center came down during your brother’s reign. Remember that," Trump said to the former Florida governor, prompting a long, contentious back-and-forth.
In a state that’s home to a large number of military installations and veterans, the supercharged showdown between two candidates who’ve been sparring for months could play big, potentially reordering the race in the final week.
Ironically, Trump did not actually say anything wrong: Bush DID lie about the WMDs and conduct an illegal war. It's also true that both Clinton and Bush had chances to kill Bin Laden but did not take them. It's still a bit extreme to blame 9/11 on GWB on stage, inviting at least 5 minutes of loud booing. The most surprising thing about the exchange is that Jeb! Bush is seen as the one who actually Stumped Trump. Who knows if the polls will change (They won't)?
Insiders: Trump flopped in debate
“Trump lost any chance to grow his base with his mean-spirited performance,” a South Carolina Republican said of Trump, the current poll-leader in that state one week from the primary. “He may still receive a quarter of the vote on February 20, but he will fall far below polling expectations. Trump's attack on President George W. Bush was galactic-level stupid in South Carolina.”
By itself this would be a pretty interesting moment, but that is not all! While Rubio accused Cruz of lying, Trump took it a step further, in one of the strongest direct attacks in a debate... ever?
Trump to Cruz: ‘You Are The Single Biggest Liar’
http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/trackers/2016-02-14/trump-to-cruz-you-are-the-single-biggest-liar
“You are probably worse than Jeb Bush. This guy lied about Ben Carson” and took votes away from him in Iowa, Donald Trump says to Ted Cruz in a CBS Republican debate marked by exchanges of insults.
My favorite moment is definitely when Rubio and Cruz arguing turned into- well, just look:

Bush later quoted Chris Christie and said he was tired of hearing Senators argue over minutia. It's pretty clear now that both of them lied on immigration.
Anyway, there was a lot more shit, like Donald mentioning Jeb Bush mooning the stage and Cruz arguing with the moderator, and Ben asking for attention and getting none

Holy shit, Trump hit Jeb with some pretty underhanded stuff.
The Cruz v Rubio bouts were the best honestly. Little disingenuous to call this a "disaster", it was rowdy sure. Trump played the 9/11 card again but ineffectively, Carson got ignored, Kasich was the "nice guy", Rubio had some pretty good answers and didn't go all robot again.

cruz's spanish wasn't terrible. don't know if anyone really knew or cared at that point tho
Trump is such a giant whiny baby.
To be fair, Ted "abolish the IRS and institute a flat tax" Cruz might be worse than the wingnut Jeb "abolish the Department of Education and bomb Iran" Bush.
Trump might be a complete joke candidate who will soon fall out of the race, but his fellow Republicans aren't much better.
Trump wants to save social security. The others want it annihilated. Unfortunately he's the best Republican.
jesus that 9/11 comment was probably one of the worst things trump could say to lose support from republicans
I think the worst shit during this debate was the constant booing and jeering by the crowd. The people on stage almost had to yell to talk over the crowd, making things worse.
They literally fucking boo'd the fact that we found no WMD's in Iraq. Seriously? Where did they find this crowd?
Republicball Z: Battle of Gods
Why do you guys think Trump is wrong about this? Outside of this thread, I mean.
"galactic-level stupid" is my favorite phrase ever now
and it honestly does describe Trump criticizing Bush in South Carolina of all places

the funny part is that Trump was booed for making the most sense this time
iraq war is bad, planned parenthood good, social security good, etc

I think for once people on Facepunch would agree he isn't really wrong. Unfortunately, not being wrong is hazardous to the campaign of a Republican politician.

Well I am sorry to burst your bubble, but it won't be Clinton in November.

Pretty fatuous comment considering she's still the front runner for the nomination.
pls vote jeb
hes a guacamole turtle doing the slow race
Pretty fatuous comment considering she's still the front runner for the nomination.
Pretty fatuous comment considering that it's subject to change.

Especially considering the superdelegate system is built to maintain the status quo within the DNC establishment and the DNC establishment has chosen Hillary. Your Who Wants To Be President finalist is already foreordained, and it's going to take a hell of a lot for Bernie to oust her as the chosen candidate.
That or maybe there'll be a criminal indictment against Hillary for those unclassified-whoops-did-I-say-unclassified-I-meant-TOP-SECRET emails on her personal home server, and that'll take her out of the race.

They were booed because trump claimed that the bush administration lied about WMDs
Holy shit Trump is the one making the most sense in all of those what a Kindergarten.

They were. It's not a claim.

Welcome to politics.
Pretty fatuous comment considering that it's subject to change.
Great zinger and all but what he said was objectively factual.
Insulting GWB (and by extension Jeb) was a really, really stupid move by Trump.
I don't see how he thought that would work out. The majority of Republicans still approve of GWB...

I think the republicans are just waiting until after the primaries are done to take her out of the race so that their nominee wins by default.
What's up with the assumption that clinton is getting the nomination? And that she's going to win?

They did not lie about WMD's per se but they were dishonest in not telling the American people they weren't sure if they actually were there or not.

Because going off of right now she's the front runner. Which of course is still subject to change.
Wonder if Kasich is gonna start to rise in the polls after staying above the bloodbath. He was the only moderately likable guy last night, Carson doesn't really count.

The assumption that she'll win the nomination isn't THAT unwarrented though assuming she'll win at this point makes little sense, especially when you consider how her ongoing bout vs Bernie is effectively splitting the Dem voterbase in half.

Worth noting that Clinton had a similar lead over Obama.
What's up with the assumption that clinton is getting the nomination? And that she's going to win?
DNC wants Clinton really really REALLY badly. As I said in an older thread, she's what John McCain was for the Republicans in 2008, a de facto heir to the current presidency.
