Prince Charles is ready to reshape the monarch's role when he becomes king and make "heartfelt interventions" in national life in contrast to the Queen's taciturn discretion on public affairs, his allies have said.
In signs of an emerging strategy that could risk carrying over the controversy about his alleged meddling in politics into his kingship, sources close to the heir say he is set to continue to express concerns and ask questions about issues that matter to him, such as the future of farming and the environment, partly because he believes he has a duty to relay public opinion to those in power.
"He will be true to his beliefs and contributions," said a well-placed source who has known him for many years. "Rather than a complete reinvention to become a monarch in the mould of his mother, the strategy will be to try and continue with his heartfelt interventions, albeit checking each for tone and content to ensure it does not damage the monarchy. Speeches will have to pass the following test: would it seem odd because the Queen wouldn't have said it or would it seem dangerous?"
In the past Charles has stirred controversy by lobbying politicians over issues such as genetic modification of crops, education and health. The government has already conceded that if the currently secret "black spider memos" he has written to ministers are ever made public, and readers concluded Prince Charles was disagreeing with government policy, that could "seriously damage" his future role as king.
Even if his intentions are good, this will just lower the public's opinion (or at least elements of the public) against the monarchy.
Lets hope he creates some sort of "To Play the King" style drama when he becomes King.
I forgot he was next in line :v:
Pshh Charles, you're never going to be king, just face it, Liz is fuckin' immortal.
Like hell you will

He's really hanging in there but I can't picture him getting much of a turn when Elizabeth finally checks out.
I'd be interested to see if he actually intended on speaking out or whether this is a joke. Prince Charles comes off to me as the biggest troll.
The monarchy's always going to be in a delicate position until it's ended and he would be taking a lot of risks by actively intervening in politics.
He won't do jack shit.
There's a reason the English monarchy stays the hell away from politics. If they got involved, it could undermine and destroy them.
For everyone rating me "dumb," what do you think will happen when he starts espousing support for policies that a certain party (be it Con, Labour or UKIP) doesn't like? There is already an anti-monarchy group within Labour (not to mention the regionalist parties).

Lol then let's hope he does all he can to get involved in politics!

You gathered all that from his post?
You gathered all that from his post?
It's not the first post he has made on monarchy.
Or the second.
Or third.
"I despise the monarchy for irrational reasons and don't know when to accept the fact that nobody agrees with me."
To be fair, monarchies are irrational institutions by their very nature. I'm not saying Britain should become a republic, just that there is no logical reason for someone to be given tremendous wealth and fame on the taxpayer's dole, for no reason other than being born into it.
"I despise the monarchy for irrational reasons and don't know when to accept the fact that nobody agrees with me."
What's irrational? Do you even know my reasons for opposing monarchies? And what does majority opinion have to do with the validity of a position?

I have decided to take the quote for this, copy it, and put it in a text file for when the Queen does die and Charles becomes king, so we can all laugh :v:.
Why would anyone care about the king/queen's political opinion anymore than any other rich person?
At least the average rich person has to be generally intelligent to get/keep their money.

Not seeing the humor in this.

They are literally the leader of the country and can veto everything and anything if they so please???

Even if that's true about the "average rich person", these people keep their money simply and literally because they're born into it and no other reason.

Are there rational reasons to support the monarchy?
