First off background about me: I am born to a Catholic family. I used to be an alter boy up until I was 8. My parents wanted me to actually learn about the bible, so they sent me to a protestant church where I learned much of what I know today about the bible. Anyway, fast forward to 2011, and what you see before you is collegegrad the man with many many questions about the contradictions of the religion he was born into. Needless to say I don't go to church anymore, and I hate to say it because society looks at us atheists in a weird look like we're monsters, but I am an atheist (like the people claiming they are Catholic or Muslim or Jewish are any better than me because of their claims). Anyway, so I go to Omegle because Chatroulette decided to IP ban me, and Omegle has some weird people on it. Like weirdos talking to you because they want you to become Christian. I ran into one earlier, a girl maybe in her 20s. I decided to legitimately ask her questions about her religion. I was curious. I asked her what she thought angels were (I was looking for her to mention wings.. but damn it she never did). I started asking her about the books in the bible, and I was trying to get at who the people who wrote the books were, and if there were others that were excluded, and why they were excluded, etc. I pulled out my freshman year biology book and she got pissed at me lol.. anyway sorry for the chat log, you can skip it.
You're now chatting with a random stranger. Say hi! Official messages from Omegle will not be sent with the label 'Stranger:'. Strangers claiming to represent Omegle are lying. Stranger: Is your life really that sad that you need masturbate to any random stranger? You: can he prevent evil? Stranger: No, he can not. Stranger: We put evil in the world. You: so he doesn't have unlimited power? Stranger: God gave us free will You: so we're more powerful than he? Stranger: No we do not Stranger: But there is also Statin You: statin? You: who's that? You: is he another son of god? You: wow I wish I knew this stuff better Stranger: He's a fallen Angel.. The Devil You: wait wait time out You: a fallen angel? Stranger: Yes. You: what's an angel? You: I never understood angels Stranger: I'm not stupid I know you know what an angel is. You: no please explain You: I'm serious You: I mean if you dont know, then it's okay, it'll make me feel better about my ignorance Stranger: I know what he angel is they are messagers of God. But there are many differnt types of them Stranger: There are some that only bow at the thrown of God You: wait messagers of god? like he sends messages with them? Stranger: Not exactly Stranger: But there are Guarden Angel's Stranger: Who look after you You: OH You: like the place you donate to? You: christmas time? You: or is that the insurance company? You: I'm SO confused You: omg.. SO many questions.. I might just be saved today Stranger: To be saved you must expect Jesus into your heart You: oh accept You: but I don't understand who he is You: you seem to know him very well since you accepted him so quick and at such a young age Stranger: He is the son of God is died on the Cross for you Stranger: Last year. You: oh so he's not God? Stranger: This a very hard question. Stranger: Jesus is God and man You: wait what? You: I don't get it.. explain Stranger: He was born from the Vrigin Mary and conceived by the holy spirt.. You: time out You: conceived by the holy spirit? You: what does that mean? You: wait time out You: how can he be born from a woman that is a virgin? Stranger: God is the father.. God can do anything You: no Stranger: yes You: I know for a fact that for someone to be born there has to be sperm and an egg You: I learned this in my biology class You: let me look it up Stranger: Stop Stranger: This a true for people Stranger: But Jesus is not normal You: lol hes weird Stranger: No he's God You: its ok You: were all weird Stranger: He's fully God and fully man You: I thought he was the son of god Stranger: Jesus is perfect Stranger: Corect You: wait why is jesus perfect? Stranger: Because He is God Stranger: God does not sin You: wait he can't be God.. a god HAS to be able to do everything You: and be more powerful than anything Stranger: God is You: he's more powerful than ANYTHING? Stranger: Yes You: does God like people? Stranger: God loves everyone You: awwww :) You: wait Stranger: Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. Stranger: It's like a chapter You: I think you're wrong You: I think God wrote the bible Stranger: God did write the bible You: oh I thought you said jesus was god You: is John god too? Stranger: No Stranger: I'm sorry. I know you think this is funny. But I do have too go. You: wow I thought you were a true christian helping me be saved Stranger: I am. You: I guess when you go to the doors of heaven you can tell them about how you didn't help me out Stranger: But my family has gotten to my home You: tell them you're helping me find god You: surly they'll understand You: and help you answer my questions Stranger: I have faith that you can do this on your own. Stranger: Find any Christian. Stranger: Talk to a Paster You: but most of them don't know what the hell they're talking about because they never asked questions You: just blindly believed Stranger: This is the frist step to heaven Stranger: Say this pray Stranger: Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness. I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin. You said in Your Holy Word, Romans 10:9 that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved. Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my soul. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved. Thank you Jesus for your unlimited grace which has saved me from my sins. I thank you Jesus that your grace never leads to license, but rather it always leads to repentance. Therefore Lord Jesus transform my life so that I may bring glory and honor to you alone and not to myself. Thank you Jesus for dying for me and giving me eternal life. Amen. You: Am i supposed to memorize that? Stranger: Good Luck I will pray for you. You: omg Stranger: No just read it lol You: I'm bad at memorizing You: but what's the point in just reading it? Stranger: You're comitting your life to God Stranger: Good luck You: I don't even know him completely Stranger: God Bless You: wanna see my penis? Stranger: Wow Stranger: I will pray You: I know more about god than you You: you retard You: lol Stranger: I knew you were kidding bye Your conversational partner has disconnected.
SO here's my goal for this summer. Since I don't have much to do this summer, I am planning on visiting churches and talk to religious people/priests, etc. and see what they know about my questions. No, I'm not going to be Bill Maher and no I'm not gonna make a horrible documentary where I only film retards that don't know anything about the religion. Hopefully I'll run into people that know more about the religion than I do, so I can actually learn about religions as a whole. I will update you guys with pictures, stories, and I might even film/voice record if they let me. When is my summer vacation you ask? It's in 2 weeks, since I am in college and all... actually after these 2 weeks my user name will actually apply and I will be legally collegegrad
dont care didnt read religion is gay
you will burn in the lake of fire
dont care didnt read religion is gay
I find religion to be very fascinating. I don't believe in the beliefs that "religious" people believe in, but I find it very fascinating of how people behave with religion. Like most religious people blindly believe what they are told, and they don't even think about what they are told. It's crazy and amazing at the same time.
this thread sucks; too bad i can't sage. (User was banned for this post ("Snipe/Meme reply" - Craptasket))
this thread sucks; too bad i can't sage.
Yes you can, if you go back to 4chan where you belong
Should have just ended it fast and asked her to prove God. I personally am unable to believe in something that can't be proven to exist. Except for Episode 3 and Duke Nukem Forever.
Should have just ended it fast and asked her to prove God. I personally am unable to believe in something that can't be proven to exist. Except for Episode 3 and Duke Nukem Forever.
i think theres probably more to life than evidence

I'm not trying to be an asshole "Prove God" "Read the bible" "PROVE GOD!!" "I can't" "THERE IS NO GAWD!!!" (Next)
If christopher Hitchens can't do it to your liking, and Sam Harris can't do it to your liking, and Richard Dawkins can't do it to your liking, what makes you think your questioning of religious folk is going to bring up any sort of revelation? [editline]21st April 2011[/editline]
i think theres probably more to life than evidence
There's more to reality than what we can prove to be part of reality! Just ask the pixies in my toilet that tell me what to do.
I'm your god, worship me :science:
that prayer is so degrading, "so that I may bring glory and honor to you alone and not to myself" wtf is up with that? what's the point in living if you're not doing it for yourself? asinine, hypocritical, annoying shit
Based off your posts in maverick's advice thread I'd say this is a bad idea. You just rub people the wrong way is all.

Besides, it's just very very interesting.. like my mother is religious and considers herself as a religious woman, but she doesn't know squat when I ask her a simple question. I stopped asking her because I felt bad, and I don't want to make her feel like the past 50 years of her life has been a lie. I'm leaving her along and content because she's my mom and I love her. I read it and you seem like the biggest troll I've ever met. Good job! Oh, but if you are serious... no.
DOG IS GOD SPELT BACKWARDS RuN fOr Ur LiVeS!!!!!!!!1
I'm looking to understand religion as well. I didn't read the OP but I get the general gist of what he's saying.
Religion just doesn't seem worth it to me. I'm an Atheist, and I feel just as capable as some of my religious friends. I fail to see the point in religion.
I can't stand religious people and their bullshit. No offence. I had a relative that was a hardcore christian, and everytime we met he would start preaching about god and how we would all burn in hell if we didn't become christians before the "coming apocalypse". It's not the dark ages anymore, we have science and we've been to space. Why do people still believe in this nonsense?
Stranger: This a true for people Stranger: But Jesus is not normal You: lol hes weird Stranger: No he's God
^ Love that line. I like how God manages to break the laws of grammar if you are speaking about.
If you're desperate for a religion at least pick a cool one like Norse paganism. You get to worship this badass motherfucker.
I'm fine with religious people as long as they keep it to themselves and don't constantly bring it up. I'm not fine with the religious people that tell everyone they're going to hell with absolutely no evidence behind their statements.

I thought it was something like: God loves everyone, gave people free will so they can decide themselves whether they want to be good or bad, if they are good they get rewarded (in heaven), if they choose to be bad they get punished (in hell). God can do everything but he doesn't get rid of the evil because that would leave us without the choice to be bad, stripping us of free will. The father, the son and the holy spirit together compose God. The bible was written by people who were inspired by God, relaying his teachings. Something like that. At least that's what I've been told in the church and on religion lessons, before I decided it doesn't really hold up.

Many books contradicted each other. How come only some of these books went into the bible, and the rest burned with only a few traces of them still around? I was reading a National Geographic magazine the other day and they said that they discovered a translation of a book that was supposed to be part of the bible which claimed that Jesus asked Judas to betray him. I mean if a human being like you and I decided this to be left out, what else was left out? How can we trust imperfect being like ourselves to be dictate knowledge of an all-powerful wise being?

There are a few contradictions I have found. First of all, there was Adam and Eve, and they had three kids... Kayne, Able, and Seth. Kayne killed able, so now its Seth, Kayne, Adam, and Eve. How did we get from 2 sons, one mom, and one dad. Was there so MASSIVE incest going on? Another contradiction is belly buttons. Did Adam and Eve have belly buttons? I mean, if they didn't how would their kids have one to be fed in the uterus..

What, all these people were 'inspired' by God. Which one is the right one? Why are we all going to hell because we've worn nylon and cotton, or eaten meat on a day we shouldn't have, or [insert billion other reasons]. A lot of stuff that doesn't make sense that actually is in the bible isn't taught because, well it doesn't make sense, we don't want people to question bible. And the contradictions... same deal. There are many contradictions in the bible even if the additional books were discarded. "People have free will to choose their fate by themselves" and "God has a plan for everyone" would be a nice example. Plus you get all the "modern translation" stuff going on. Which is basically "patching" the bible so it doesn't contradict common knowledge too much... I'm waiting for the "evolution patch".
