Revolutionary, revitalised and remastered, Battlezone 98 Redux’s blend of thrilling first person action and tense RTS gameplay is as essential now as it ever was.
This remaster release might have flown under everyone's radar, so I thought I'd just point it out, it's on GoG and Steam, fantastic game and fantastic job remastering it.
Now THAT'S a remaster
Never played this before, think it's the right time to do so
i loved the n64 port of this back in the day so i will definatly be picking this up in the near future
I wouldn't call it much of a remaster in terms of visuals, that's like what, 2003 standards? Will probably pick it up anyway
I used to just mess around with the lunar lander and the rave gun. That alone was extremely enjoyable, and apart from that, I didn't do much else because I was too young to understand what the game really is about. But despite all that, for some reason this game managed to stick with me.
Damn, I heard they were working on these but forgot about it since there hasn't been any news about it.
Guess this means it's time to start another playthrough of BZ 98 and BZ2
I hope they remaster BZ2.

It does seem like they're using the same engine, which is quite old so it probably didn't allow for super significant improvements.

That doesn't make it any less of a remaster, it's still improved.
I'm glad they kept the changes moderate. With more drastic graphical overhauls you'll start getting diminished returns very soon, as the work required increases exponentially and too much changes means it won't appeal to our nostalgia.
The devs are going to be doing the red odyssey too

Remaster: make a new master of (a recording), typically in order to improve the sound quality. (or in this case, updating the original game)
Remake: make (something) again or differently.
They're working in an engine from 98. I don't think you'd be able to get much better then this unless you want a full on remake. And honestly, I prefer this over a remake any day. Lot's of things get lost in remakes.

Awesome. I got The Red Odyssey but it never got the same amount of love after release from the original programmer as BZ1998 got so it had many problems with modern OS's.

It would be great for the community, but honestly it's a game doesn't particularly need it since it has aged very well except for some piss-poor AI. The game was pretty much the Crysis of its time with the same absurd system requirements, it already has extensive mod support, and like BZ1998 has received great support from the original programmers so it runs beautifully on modern OS's; hell it even supports pseudo-dynamic shadows nowadays, and the max polycount per entity is something like 10x greater than at release.

Remastering implies it's been updated to modern standards, which it has not been. It got a marginal texture upgrade but thats really it.

It's worth it just to have a copy that runs on windows 10 honestly.
How the hell did I miss this, Battlezone II is my favorite game of all time (not that the rest of the series is bad, just that II is my favorite.)
This game reminds me greatly of TA spring stylistically.
How does the first game to compare to BZ2? I hear a lot of people say BZ2 isn't as good as the first one and I'm curious why.
Also how is this game for coop/fighting friends?
I remember playing this and being awe'd by how cool it is but not understanding anything what was going on at all. Beside driving around and shooting ships. Felt really awesome to back then.
Most likely going to pick this up to learn what I never did before. This game had some sort of thing going for it something deep and fascinating that I cant really explain beceuse its been more than 10 years.
