The journalists are bored. Some have been positioned outside St. Mary’s Hospital in west London for a full week now, waiting for signs that Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, is ready to deliver the baby who will be third in line to the throne. On Wednesday, they resorted to interviewing each other: the British are interviewing the Americans, the Japanese interviewed the Canadian, and the Canadian interviewed the Germans.
Media outlets from around the world have descended on this quiet side street in Paddington to await the arrival of the first child of Prince William and his wife Kate; her reported due date is Saturday. As the time draws closer, the sidewalk facing the main entrance of the hospital’s private Lindo Wing, where the baby will be delivered, has become busier, with news media spread across three sections of the street, stretching perhaps 200 metres.
Camera crews and photographers have set up tripods and step-ladders along the curb, using tape to mark off the spots they’ve secured. Anxious not to miss the world’s first glimpse of the royal baby, they wait, day and night, to the amusement of many curious locals who work at or near the hospital.
Celebrity gossip is always the best, especially when it comes down to things like this. :v:

Why does this get so much attention? I've never been able to understand it.
hashtag and pocahontas
are you fucking serious
I just can't get over why this is so massive and important, I mean, I get it she's part of the monarchy but... I can't... I just can't get over why everyone makes a god damn backflipping fuss over a child who isn't any more important than you or I when it boils down to it.
Let's do this FP
Agree if boy
Disagree if girl
If it's called Arthur, it'd be fucking badass.

Er, it's a joke I think
That's a light-hearted list of betting odds

Yes journalists have a sense of humor too.

well it's statistically likely to be a boy so
How is Hashtag even a boy's name? It sounds like a girl's.

Were you there, Smurfy?
Someone should go out with a fire hose and start spraying them down in an act of "cleaning the sidewalk"
Of course, the paparazzi are assholes and they will start smearing whoever they can photograph.

The tide of patriotic fervour that washed over us in 2012 (what with the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee) seems to have caught the media's attention, and it's easier to send journalists to mull their career choices over in front of a hospital trying to ride the royalist waves than it is to send them somewhere where there might actually be something important happening.
I was hoping to see some biographies on international journalists, all I got was a blurb.
I've been curious as to how someone finds themselves in a position to be camped out in another country for a week waiting for a birth. I guess I'll never know.

the child's gonna be third in line too
roughly equivalent to George Bush's nephew in terms of who-gives-a-fuck
It's going to be ugly as fuck
and deformed
only one arm and no eyes
Put me down a fiver on "Horrible miscarriage" please.
All this media coverage of the royal family honestly annoys me. Why can't the media spend time reporting on actual important matters?
the child's gonna be third in line too

Third in line when it's born. Provided the child doesn't die before Prince William, it will eventually be the reigning Monarch. Maybe if Bush's nephew were a primary contender for President it would be an apt comparison. Not to say that this deserves the amount of media attention it's getting.
Also, kinda hoping, if it's a boy, they name him Richard, for no reason other than I think it's a nice name. Though these days I guess being King Dick IV wouldn't be that great.
Why will the baby be third in line? The succession line right now is Charles > William > Harry right?
Why will the baby be third in line? The succession line right now is Charles > William > Harry right?
The child of the firstborn comes before the second born, does it not?
If that child is born on my birthday, I might shoot myself because that's ALL I'm going to hear about.
The child of the firstborn comes before the second born, does it not?
I guess it does. I have no idea how it works anyways :v:
I was half expecting The Onion.
I guess it does. I have no idea how it works anyways :v:
Honestly I'm just working on the assumption that succession laws have not changed since the days of William the Conqueror. That and I think I remember Britain declaring that whatever the gender of Princess(?) Kate's child, it will one day be Monarch.
I guess it does. I have no idea how it works anyways :v:
It does as the Child is Williams son; A child of the first son becomes before the second son in succession making it Charles -> William -> Baby -> Harry. Harry is unlikely to ever inherit the throne unless William and all his children die... *Cough* Play the Game Harry *Cough*...

Also you are right about the succession laws changing. Up until this year it was male preference Father->Child inheritence but they have changed it to accept either gender. The only limiting factor that could disqualify you now I think is being a Roman Catholic (They repealed the expulsion from succession for marrying a Catholic this year too)
well it's statistically likely to be a boy so
i think 51% of the world is female so it's statistically more likely to be a girl.
or something
