[img_thumb]http://www.iflscience.com/sites/www.iflscience.com/files/styles/ifls_large/public/blog/%5Bnid%5D/google%20contact.jpg[/img_thumb]
Google announced in January that it was developing a smart contact lens that could continually monitor blood glucose levels of Type 2 diabetics. It has been announced that Google is also working to create a contact lens with an integrated camera that would help people with visual disabilities. The lens is meant to work like this: a small camera will be embedded out of the way of the pupil so it will not obstruct vision. Blinking activates the sensor for the camera. An advantage to using this lens instead of something like Google Glass is that the camera is able to follow the eye’s precise movement. Even the smallest sideways glance will still allow the camera to face the point of interest. The data collected by the camera can be processed to recognize a variety of properties including faces, motion, color, light, and certain objects. Holy shit, YES!
Finally I can have the thermal vision I've always wanted!
Finally I can have the thermal vision I've always wanted!
There was a thread I made a few weeks ago that covered utilizing modified Graphene as a thermal imaging device potentially used in contact lenses (Given the thickness of the layers). Its a real possibility and not psuedo science.
I just want augmented eye balls already
Just like Artemis Fowl.
Well...I guess that's cool but the augment I really want is the Typhoon Explosive System. Monitoring glucose levels is all good and whatnot but blowing up shit in a 360 degree radius is a lot cooler.
Wow, this is awesome. Visual disorders are the worst so I'm glad a lot of progress is being made. In more selfish interests, I'd love to have these to monitor heart rate, blood sugar levels (well, that's stated in the article so :v:), blood oxygen levels, hydration levels and other cool junk while I exercise, provided that it's possible of course.
I just want to look like the Illusive Man but I am neither shady nor important so i dont think i could pull off the feeling quite right
so it's like a sharingan right
Fuck fuck I need to get rich soon so I can afford one of those!
-snip its just a camera-
Blinking activates the sensor for the camera.
I don't have eyelids. :(
High freq cell data + eyeball. Best idea yet. [editline]18th April 2014[/editline] Just to be clear, I'm kidding. OP, this is the kind of product you should NOT test for them.
well i'm sure glad we have people like you to tell us there's no way to do things and no point in looking into them
well i'm sure glad we have people like you to tell us there's no way to do things and no point in looking into them
I said test
but did I ever ask
No, it was for OP. I'm kind of being a hypocrite though. I'll stop now.
I love it, doubt the conspiracy nuts will be very happy however :v:. [editline]18th April 2014[/editline] Although, people blink a lot. Wouldn't you be taking a whole bunch of photos?
Does this mean we can finally google for Waldo? [t]http://wallpapersinhq.com/images/big/where_s_waldo-996544.jpg[/t]
Monitoring blood glucose levels sounds pretty useful for anyone, let alone diabetics, especially if it actually shows up as a heads-up display. If it is made open-source and the UI is interactive via a smartphone with a Bluetooth connection, then the possibilities could be pretty big, especially if it could be used for monitoring the heartbeat or detecting if you have a good amount of electrolytes in your bloodstream.
Awesome! Now creepy guys can take pictures of unsuspecting women without having to wear a stupid headset that gives them away!
Too bad a lot of people can't wear contact lenses, since they cause terrible irritation. I take antihistamine eye drops twice daily to wear mine, but damn are they good when you have no irritation. It was literally like having soap in your eye that you couldn't get out no matter what until you took the contact lens out.

When I first got them and finally got one in, I was surprised how they felt. I couldn't even tell I had them in unless I had them in for 14 or more hours, and only then because they would maybe slide around when I blinked every now and then I remember my father telling me stories of how contacts were in the 70's and 80's. Would not have fucking wanted them then. More like hard plastic back then
Wow i can't wait to use my incorporated eye flashlight to be able to see into mostly useless spots that don't contain anything useful!
I may have asked for this.
I don't have eyelids. :(
Why?
Why?
oh my god you don't just ask someone why they don't have eyelids
Awesome! Now creepy guys can take pictures of unsuspecting women without having to wear a stupid headset that gives them away!
And store those pictures where?
So what do we call people then? Lenseholes?
Screw magical lenses, i want a grappling hook arm (sorta sarcasm)
