CALGARY — After weeks of escalating tension and the spectre of an outright caucus revolt, Alberta Premier Alison Redford announced her resignation on Wednesday.
Ms. Redford, who was selected to lead the long-ruling Progressive Conservatives in 2011 and managed to win the party’s 11th consecutive election in 2012, announced she would relinquish her position in a sudden evening press conference held in the province’s legislature in Edmonton.
“Quite frankly, too much time the last few weeks has been spent on questions of loyalty, allegiances and character. Too many people have been distracted from the important work that the people of Alberta sent us here to do.
“I love Alberta. I am honoured to represent Alberta as your premier and I’ve given my heart and soul to this province every single minute of the day for the last two and a half years,” she said.
“Quite simply, I am not prepared to allow party and caucus infighting to get in the way of building a better future for our province and for all Albertans … with profound optimism for Alberta, I am resigning as premier of Alberta, effective this Sunday evening.”
Good, fuck that bitch and fuck the PCs. Now if only Alberta didn't have another conservative party that's 10 times worse just waiting for something like this to use as ammunition against the PCs so they can get more votes.
I fear that nothing really good will come of this.
The PCs are still corrupt and incompetent and are STILL the ones in power. The Deputy Premier can't be all that much better. If there was an election right now to replace Alison Redford then the Wild Rose would likely win, and that's the LAST thing a lot of people want.
I hated Alison, but I still liked her more than Danielle Smith.
She wasn't re-electable. If she was still in charge of the PCs next election, the Wildrose Party would have won by a landslide. You think Alberta is bad now? Put Wildrose at the helm.

Probably, though Wildrose was supposed to win the last election and instead Redford got another majority (Which was hilarious by the way).
The conservatives should run a soap opera.

I like to point out problems and provide no solutions
Lol. Nova Scotian had a huge corruption scandal when our politicians spent tax money on shit like a $900 generator.
Holy christ Alberta has a corruption problem, $45 000 in one incident? Christ even our most corrupt only got to $38 000 overall before getting caught

Hahaha at least your government didn't scrap a $190 million dollar fucking power plant that ended up costing the province $1.1 billion

I swear, government is so bad in our country lol
Yeah I don't think any provincial parties can compare to the Ontario Liberals, especially when McGuinty was at the helm. No one I know can even name off all the scandals because there have been so many they have forgotten some. E-Health, Orange, Presto, the power plant, $0.80/kWh solar power, the Samsung factory... and the list goes on. These scandals are worth a few hundred million to a few billion dollars each.
Ontario is not a fun place to be right now.

Yeah, it's astounding they got a third fucking term. Just goes to show how little of a presence Hudak actually has. If the Tories want to de-throne the Grits (Let's face it, Bob Rae's fucked the NDP for at least another generation, doesn't matter who's in charge) they're sure as hell not going to do it with Hudak at the helm.
But at least we're not Quebec, funnelling money into the mafia through shady construction contracts or whatever it was the construction unions were doing to the province there.

Corruption wise Alberta's PC's are pretty bad. I can't anything in the country worse except for Quebec, the federal government and first nations tribes.
Wha w w what?
You can't say ANYTHING bad about the First Nations, some white guys killed a lot of them.
