'Night at the Museum' writers on board to script The studio has tapped the scripting team of Thomas Lennon and R. Ben Garant — best known for the “Night at the Museum” and “Reno 911″ franchises, to write the screenplay as a new spin on the Drebin character. Helms starred in “The Hangover” trilogy and “We’re the Millers” and recently recently wrapped “Stretch” opposite Chris Pine and Patrick Wilson. He stars in the romcom parody “They Came Together,” which will premiere at Sundance, opposite Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. Lennon and Garant recently wrote “Baywatch” for Paramount and “Rent a Ghost” for Fox and just sold “Guinea Pigging” to Fox 2000 for Mitch Hurwitz to direct. They wrote and directed “Hell Baby,” which debuted at Sundance this year” and Garant wrote the Lionsgate horror/thriller “Jessabelle” for Blumhouse and Principato-Young with an Aug. 29 release date.
[Source: Variety.com]
The Naked Gun was a fucking classic, please don't reboot this
Why reboot something that doesn't need a reboot? It was perfectly fine as is.
'Night at the Museum' writers on board to script
Oh boy, a name we can trust. Lieutenant Jim Dangle.
Why reboot something that doesn't need a reboot? It was perfectly fine as is.
Money.
No please no.
Ed Helms is a good actor, i guess we'll have to see how it pans out. reboots can damage an actors career, so i hope it isn't that bad
Naked Gun's humor wouldn't work in today's society though. This movie is bound to bomb.
nononononononono
Naked Gun's humor wouldn't work in today's society though. This movie is bound to bomb.
Naked Gun is just a more complicated parody compared to the rest. They'll just dumb it down so everyone gets a laugh. It'll definitely degrade the value of the series though. I'll just have to see a trailer to even START forming an opinion.
but Leslie Nielsen
Why reboot something that doesn't need a reboot? It was perfectly fine as is.
Nothing really needs a reboot, it's just easier to reboot a classic and get plenty of sales due to its legacy, rather than go out on a limb and try something new.
No. Fuck you. God damn.
Naked Gun's humor wouldn't work in today's society though. This movie is bound to bomb.
the tv show the movies were based on wouldn't work in today's hollywood, it would be too smart. (reason why it was canned)

The entire cast of the movie jammed into the poster, everyone's making silly faces. Blue background. "The Naked Gun" in big red letters. Co-directed by Aaron Seltzer.
This is going to be baaad.
Why the FUCK is this being made.
Leslie Nielsen will be turning in his grave.
what the reboot will never get right,
why
"Starring Ed Helms" and then Zach Galifianakis gets hit by a car. [editline]14th December 2013[/editline] The fact that they've cast a comic actor for the Drebin role already shows that they don't understand a thing about the show.

Ed Helms could be good. I have lots of respect for him as an actor. Unfortunately he can only play the role he's been cast, hope they don't screw him and the classic movie over at the same time.
My friend showed me this earlier this year and it became my favorite movie.
They're never going to repeat the magic of the deadpan delivery that Naked Gun, Police Squad, et al had, they'll never let a joke pass someone by. I can watch those films again today and still get more jokes this time that I missed before, despite having watching them all many times over. It's made them endlessly rewatchable.
No hollywood. You stop that right now.

I remember reading somewhere that they where working on a new Naked Gun film prior to Nielsen's death, however without him with the lead character being his son leading a new Police Squad. But it was meant as a straight to DVD release which gives you an Idea of the quality that this film will have.
