IceFrog was hired by Valve a long while ago, and they trademarked "DOTA" a few months ago.

Really, I don't think there is anyway to push Half Life forward anymore without pissing off a large group of people. Battle lines were drawn WAY before Episode two came out with the Orange Box.

Defence of the ancients, custom game mod originally for warcraft 3.
It's basically a 3rd person RTS-RPG kind of hybrid, you control a hero and you level and shit by killing monsters/other players, but games only last like an hour.
It's kind of fun if you love tedious micro and leveling with items combined.
