Creating Techno Music: Setting up with sounds and program problems :S
7 replies, posted
Hi there.
Recently I have decided that I wanted to start making techno music, I have been looking around the internet for good programs to use, as well as looking at the style of Techno. The program that seems to be the best for techno is Fruity Loops Studio (FL Studio), which most people apparently use, so I went and got myself a copy (don't worry, it's legal :P).
When I opened FL Studio up I got a bit of a shock, I have the basic sounds but of course none of the sounds used to create Techno where there. I went searching around the web and found I needed plugins or samples, which I have spent a week now trying to find, I can never seem to get a full pack to use with techno, and all the you-tubers have apparently quit, or just don't check comments/messages.
So my question is; Is FL Studio the best program to use, and if so where can I get some of the sound packs/plugins (Could I have a link please). I promise I have looked but found nothing of any use.
Thanks,
~Joe
To be honest, techno is kind of dead now anyways, so you're going to struggle finding samples for those types of music, but for synthesis you could use some basic VST plugins like Sylenth1, Z3ta+, Nexus 2, etc.
It's just a matter of how hard you search.

Who cares if techno is "dead."
As for FL Studio, get the default VSTs and read their manuals - LEARN THOSE FUCKERS! Make something psycho!

SUbtractive synths make the best sounding techno IMO.
Thanks both of you :)

Depending on what you call techno, it's far from dead.
Learn all the FL plugins in and out, they are pretty high quality, highly useful and it will make your jouney more pleasant.

I regard techno as the early 90s kind of 909 drum sound trancey sound
I must've made a mistake
I've been producing for nearly a decade. It can take several years to accumulate a library of good samples, unless of course, you have buckets of money.
With that said, it shouldn't be too difficult to build a decent library, just need to do some clever googling. freesound.org is a good resource too.
Guard your samples with your life, they're probably one of your most important investments.
Oh, and don't use any of the stock FL samples, they're garbage.
