Moba communities are shit in general.
I played this for a long time but quit because the frustration ratio was too high versus time played. I like to have fun in games, moba games aren't fun, they are "DEAD SRS".
I'll give it a try. See how different it is then LoL.

You can still get them with in-game points. I've obtained around 4 or 5 that I play right now with almost enough for another 1300 hero. It's really not that hard to get the points. However, I still might purchase the disc version for the 20 heroes and $10 points.

I got 54 champions.
5 full rune pages.
Takes a while, but I like playing and unlocking things, so works well for me. :)

Nice. Yeah it's pretty easy to unlock them as you play, anyone who argues otherwise is just looking for a reason to argue. I just started it a few days ago after trying to get into DotA a while ago. It's a lot easier to get into once you start with friends, and now I love playing it.
DotA and DotA clones are only fun if you have 2-4 friends to play with, pubbing is horrid.
As much as i like new people coming to hon i think it was a pretty horrible idea . When i enter a match (i'm not amazing i admit) I either get put with people in their first game or with pros who want to destroy the low mmr peeps . Good idea but i feel it could have been executed better
