Not just the servers, it's the constant crashes, freezes and bugs that really makes you wonder if they did any kind of testing at all.
Right now I have a bug that displays three footprints for every pokemon at all times. Trying to catch a pokemon without telling if it's near you is absolutely frustrating. The list doesn't help at all.
That bug that happens right when you catch a Pokemon - and it always seems to be the tough fuckers who take like 30 Pokeballs to catch - and causes the app to freeze is the worst. Hands down. You can wait for ages but it doesn't unfreeze. When you eventually restart the app, you haven't even caught the Pokemon.

I agree the app is complete trash but I just spent 2 hours on Friday night in a park sitting around a couple of lured-up pokéstations with a bunch of others, so I'm really torn.
my rule of thumb is just expect everything to be unstable: the footprints, the pokestops, my gps, and even my items and pokemon.

I don't trust anything the game tells me on the map either. I just walk and when a pokemon appears I catch it. I completely ignore the rustling bushes and footprints. They seem to just be decor or something.
The footprints have always worked fine for me but the rustling seems to be entirely meaningless.

Set up shop and then the servers went down for 20 minutes. Thank god I didn't spend money on this shit.
