article: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/11/22/postcard-mailed-by-soldier-parents-to-his-sisters-during-wwii-arrives-at/ A postcard mailed nearly 70 years ago has finally arrived at the former upstate New York home of the couple who sent it. The postcard was sent July 4, 1943, from Rockford, Ill., to sisters Pauline and Theresa Leisenring in Elmira (el-MY'-ruh). Their brother, George Leisenring, was stationed at Rockford's Medical Center Barracks at Camp Grant, an Army post during World War II. Their parents were visiting him when they mailed the postcard home. The postcard reads in part, "Dear Pauline and Theresa, We arrived safe, had a good trip, but we were good and tired." Elmira's Star-Gazette newspaper reports (http://stargaz.tt/R2Ou5H ) the postcard arrived last week at the family's former home, where a different family now lives. A postal official says the postcard may have been found by someone outside the postal service and placed in the mail.
Uh.... I was hoping for a sweet story... but this is just a MAJOR Post office fail story.

Man I know how it feels, I had to wait 3 days for my TV I ordered on Amazon to arrive. 3 days!
Man I know how it feels, I had to wait 3 days for my TV I ordered on Amazon to arrive. 3 days!
I know the feel, my headset has taken nearly 2 weeks to even begin shipping, then it's an extra 3 days. OH THE HUMANITY
once i sent a postcard and it didn't arrive until 100 years from now :(

I once mailed a check to pay some taxes (they didnt have an online pay option), and 6 months or so later i got an interest statement saying I didnt pay. Fuck you post office (thankfully the interest was less than a dollar)

They don't call it "snail mail" for nothing, you know.
Cool my town.
Typical mail times.
70 years, be glad it wasn't the royal mail or you'd just have a slip at the door because someone's poked shit in your letterbox and blocked it. oh and it would have taken about 130 at first class rule britannia

Cool, I live an hour away from Rockford.
Man I know how it feels, I had to wait 3 days for my TV I ordered on Amazon to arrive. 3 days!
I've been waiting for a vinyl I ordered for 3 weeks now ;_;
At least you don't have posties that are liable to nick your stuff. I sent away an old iPhone to a phone recycling company, they never received it and I never received any kind of "lost in the post" letter or anything. Couple of folk I know have had the same experience. I still don't think my package ever left my town.
Typical mail times.
I sent a card, arrived the same day for ~20p Then again, I do live in a relatively small country
A postal official says the postcard may have been found by someone outside the postal service and placed in the mail.
I thought I was the only person who did this. Every time I find a loose registration card or sweepstakes contest entry in a 20 year old computer magazine or manual and the postage is prepaid I fill it out and mail it in.
That's kind of a really sad letter, the last thing they hear from him is that "he arrived safe"... decades ago
