Five months later, heres what it looks like.

I never heard anything from the police after filing the report. I contacted a couple law firms, but they wouldn't take my case because there was a low likelihood they could get any money from the guy.
After insurance, I owe the hospital over $1k, $900 for the ambulance, and another $1k for the specialist who did my surgery.
I'm really unsure what to do, but trying to keep a good outlook going forward.
Thanks to everyone who read/rated/commented on this, just venting about it helps immensely.

I live in a pretty active house in Fargo, ND. (USA) I have four roommates, two of whom are gay, one girl roommate and a indie kid from New Hampshire. There are all kinds of huge parties here, themes, costumes and all sorts of other shenanigans. There are occasional fights and other kinds of shit that goes on, but it's usually kept in check by roommates and other party-goers.
Last saturday (July 10th) we were having a "anything but clothes party" for our friend "Karlie"(her b-day). I had to work at 8am so I was trying to sleep, and was completely sober.
At about 3am a bunch of people went upstairs and started to knock on the roommates doors, and knocked one of them looking for karlie who apparently was having sex with someone other than her boyfriend.
They moved on to my room and I answered the door pissed off with the goal of kicking everyone out of the house. As I yelled at everyone in the hallway I saw one guy who tried to walk into my room. I grabbed his shirt to pull him out and at the same time he tried to hit me. He pushed me and we both ended up falling over a big speaker that was in the hallway. We were both on the ground and before I could hit him or do anything he said "Ok we'll go", and he got up and walked down the stairs.
I got up and went to kick out everyone else that was upstairs, and realized there was blood on my chest. I headed downstairs and proceeded to yell at everyone to get out, and a few people were arguing with me about it, and saying something about my being bloody. I walked over to the bathroom and tried to wipe off some blood, and saw that it was coming from by my ear. When I lifted up my hair I saw that about an inch off the top of my right ear was missing, and the rest of my ear was covered in blood.
I started yelling at everyone again and made my way upstairs. I turned on the light and lifted up one of the speakers and saw the 1" by 4" piece of ear laying on the floor. Picking it up was completely unreal, as I did it the weight of the situation crashed down on me and I realized that I had to take care of this. There were about ten people upstairs still trying to help me out, one of them called an ambulance and someone else grabbed a bag of ice for the piece of ear. It only took a few minutes and the ambulance and police were there to take me to the ER.
At first the doctor said that it was probably not worth it to try and reattach the small piece of ear because blood flow might be poor, and there wasn't a big chance that it would take. When he came back from talking to a specialist he said it was worth a shot. (whew)
The amazing doctor was able to reattach the ear with stitches in about an hour.

Dude had a knife, must have been a box cutter or something. There's a cut behind my ear that had to be stitched as well.

It's probably in both ears.
All the best parties end with dismemberment. You've got a gross (and therefor, cool) scar to show off, a story for the ladies, and you'll be the hot topic at nearby indie record stores and off-beat clothing retailers.
