Looks like patent trolls are all taking a stab at Microsoft this week. http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Windows/Microsoft-Sued-Again-Over-Patents-in-Texas-332216/
Microsoft's legal troubles continue with two new lawsuits filed by smaller companies alleging patent infringement, both in East Texas. Microsoft is already wrestling with the verdict of a massive patent-infringement lawsuit filed by i4i that could potentially force Microsoft Word off shelves and force Microsoft to pay close to $300 million. Microsoft finds itself the target of two new patent-infringement lawsuits, both filed in East Texas courts. Filed by a small company named EMG Technology against not only Microsoft but also Scottrade and Southwest Airlines, the first lawsuit centers on both Patent 7020845, "Navigating Internet content on a television using a simplified interface and a remote control," and Patent 7441196, "Apparatus and method of manipulating a region on a wireless device screen for viewing, zooming and scrolling Internet content." The suit alleges that Microsoft Windows CE, PocketPC and Windows Mobile all violate these patents; EMG Technology wants unspecified damages. Another company, AllVoice Developments, also filed suit against Microsoft in East Texas over Patent 5799273, "Automated proofreading using interface linking recognized words to their audio data while text is being changed," which AllVoice alleges has been violated by Windows XP and Windows Vista. Smaller companies have perhaps been emboldened by the Aug. 11 verdict handed down by a U.S. District Court in Eastern Texas that Microsoft had violated an XML-related patent held by i4i, a small Canadian company. The judge in that case ordered Microsoft to stop selling "any Infringing and Future Word Products that have the capability of opening a .DOCX or .DOCM file ('an XML file') containing custom XML" within 60 days. That includes copies of Microsoft Word. In addition, Microsoft has been ordered to pay nearly $300 million in fines, including $37 million in prejudgment interest. A detailed breakdown of i4i's patent by eWEEK can be found here. Patent-infringement lawsuits against larger companies have a history of being won in that part of the Texas court system. In 2006, Microsoft and Nintendo were ordered to pay $21 million to Anascape, a small IT outfit, for violating a patent related to game controllers; as recently as July, another tiny company, Tsera, sued Microsoft, Apple and 21 other tech companies over a touch-screen patent. This is complete BS, Microsoft have been using these names for YEARS and now these guys suddenly decided to stir up some patenting shit?
What the fuck. This is so stupid. First forcing them to cease sales of Word and now this? This was a bit silly to start with but now it's just getting retarded.
if microsoft goes down then who will fix my broken 360's?
They should have went after Apple: "Navigating Internet content on a television using a simplified interface and a remote control," and Patent 7441196, "Apparatus and method of manipulating a region on a wireless device screen for viewing, zooming and scrolling Internet content." Apple TV, Amirite?
if microsoft goes down then who will fix my broken 360's?
Want me to send you my shipping address?? :3:

Give me agree if you prefer Microsoft. Give me disagree if you prefer Apple.
Give me agree if you prefer Microsoft. Give me disagree if you prefer Apple.
what's a dumb do?
what's a dumb do?
it gives him cancer
Microsoft sued for stealing the idea of a graphics-based OS, film at eleven.
This is dumb, File Extensions should be like old songs, London Bridge, or Row Row Row your Boat... Public Domain, No one able to claim ownership It would be the same thing as some paper manufacturer suing another because they were making paper first
Microsoft is quite a target for being sued.
This is a stupid law suit.
I HOPE THEY (sorry caps) lose the lawsuits then the people who sue them will realise what they've done when microsoft goes bankrupt then they kill themselves.
I hope every lawsuit against them passes with flying colors.
Everything Microsoft creates usually sucks, so yeah.
If I could sue them I would
What the hell happened to the legendary Microsoft lawyers?
If I could sue them I would
Why? That's a really doucher thing to do.
What the hell happened to the legendary Microsoft lawyers?
I do not recall that.
I do not recall that.
holy shit no one cares
I want to see them take MSWord off shelves. Just to watch the ensuing shit storm. Honestly, I really hope that MS looses these suits, just to watch the shitstorm.
holy shit no one cares
someones butthurt
Goddamn texens. We should go down to mexico and invade their asses.
I really hope Microsoft prevails against these lawsuits because of all the fucking useful programs they make. I'm just saying I'm not jumping onto the "LOL MICROSOFT MORE LIEK MICROSHIT" bandwagon because it generally isn't true.
it gives him cancer
Linux then? Microsoft sits back and laughs at Texas. This sort of shit will get lost and never found, unless the same dumb judge that probably got sent on a very long holiday paid by Microsoft, digs up the lawsuit files.
Next thing you know they'll sue Microsoft for utilizing the Microchip in their products, since the Microchip was Invented in East Texas after all.:clint:
