http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=29929
Well, that settles that, then. Warner Bros. has just announced that Anne Hathaway has won the race to star in The Dark Knight Rises... as Selina Kyle. Also known as Catwoman. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story," said director Christopher Nolan in a press release. And, in the same release, WB and Christopher Nolan confirmed that the role Tom Hardy will play in the eagerly-awaited Batman threequel is Bane, the muscle-bound super-steroidal freak who, in the comics, once broke Batman's back. “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.” This represents a flood of information for a Christopher Nolan Bat-movie, and gives us plenty to chew on. We can't wait to see Nolan's take on the twisted relationship between Batman and the capricious Cat - and Hathaway certainly has the chops, and the curves, to fill out the catsuit. Intriguingly, Catwoman isn't mentioned in the WB press release, but with Nolan openly admitting that this is the end of his Bat-tale, it's hard to imagine that Kyle won't become Catwoman at some point in the film. Still, heck of a year for Hathaway, what with this and her gig hosting the Oscars... Bane is more interesting. Once again, Nolan is going down the multiple villains route - as he did with Scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul in Batman Begins, and The Joker and Two-Face in The Dark Knight. But we're intrigued by what he and the magnificent Hardy will bring to the role of Bane, a character who could be laughable in the wrong hands (see Batman & Robin for proof). Will this Bane be more cerebral than the grunting hulk of Schumacherville? Or will he represent the first very real physical threat to Christian Bale's Bat in the trilogy? Update: As some have pointed out, Bane in the comics is far from a grunting hulk, but a schemer who just happens to have more muscles than your average issue of Men's Health. So, when it comes to battling The Bat, he could have the perfect combination of brains and brawn... So, what do you think? Happy with these choices? Has the Caped Crusader got enough on his plate with Catwoman and Bane to contend with, or does Nolan have another villainous surprise up his sleeve? The Dark Knight Rises is out on July 20, 2012. Bane and Catwoman. I thought they were going for realism. But hey, if Hathaway shows titties this is a success.
I swear, Anne Hathaway looks identical to a friend I've had since I was in highschool.
Im just hoping they aren't going to do a Before the venom type Bane or at least have him go all Venom nuts in the movie at some point and "Hulk out"
Bane and Catwoman. I thought they were going for realism. But hey, if Hathaway shows titties this is a success.
When it comes right down to it batman just isn't realistic at all.
Catwoman would be the third villain (term used lightly) I'd want to see in a Batman movie, right after The Riddler and Mr. Freeze, so that's good. To be honest, I don't know my actors/actresses, so I don't know if Hathaway would act her well, but she certainly looks the part. But... Bane? He's really boring in my opinion. Sure, he has this whole background of a terrible childhood and all, but he's not the mastermind Ra's Al Ghul or The Joker were. I mean, how's he going to threaten Gotham? Hitting things really hard? [editline]19th January 2011[/editline]
When it comes right down to it batman just isn't realistic at all.
It's believable, though, with a minimal suspension of disbelief.
I've got a funny feeling there's another villain announcement to come, it just seems like these are simply pawns of a bigger overall story.

Yeah, I'd wanna see The Riddler, then Freeze or the Penguin, then Catwoman or Poison Ivy. The more common villains. Actually, the Penguin might be pretty cool. Needs better villains.

i have faith in Chris Nolan anyway after all the doubts Ledger got when he was announced as the joker i've no doubt these 2 can pull off they're respective roles.
I hope Bane is actually portrayed as smart for once. Every thing besides the comics have treated him like just another goon so far.
I always thought Bane was a bit too comic book-y for these new serious tone Batman films
Anyone doubting whether Bane can be pulled off properly should go read the graphic novel Batman: Knightfall, Bane is brilliant in that.
Hathaway doesn't really seem like she would fit the role of Catwoman, then again that might just be because of the Princess Bride movies.

I think they should add Calendar Man, he'd be a pretty interesting villain IMO. So would Black Mask.
Princess Diaries* But never would of guessed they were going with catwoman though I suppose Anne hathaway is a great choice.
Cool! Looking forward to this movie :D
Hathaway doesn't really seem like she would fit the role of Catwoman, then again that might just be because of the Princess Bride movies.
I'm sure something similar was said about Ledger before "B:TDK" was released, and his acting was brilliant in every way... all the nay-sayers had to swallow their words. I'm sure Nolan chose her for a good reason... he has a great taste when choosing actors and acresses for his movies, so I trust him. Go Hathaway! The choice of Bane surprised me, since the movies were grounded in reality, or as real as you can get with a man in a bat costume and inside out undies
I think they should add Calendar Man, he'd be a pretty interesting villain IMO. So would Black Mask.
Huh, forgot about Calendar Man. He'd make an interesting antagonist. I wish they hadn't already introduced and killed Two-Face. I would love to see a Nolan-i-fied adaption of The Long Halloween.

In the comics he's a very supernatural character. There's no reason not to expect them to give a huge change to Bane, and Nolan himself even said they're doing just that, with a whole new version of the character.
