You should at least make the picture link to the thread or author profile.
People don't want to see the thread when they click on it, they want to see the picture.
You can put author's nickname in description of the update.

It has to do with the fact that Garry made sure his updates are (atleast a little) tested before released so that bugs are kept to minimum

IS there a RSS feed purely for updates to GMod that's been released over Steam? IE: not the SVN beta one's.
