Police and the national rail company SNCF were unable to say on Monday whether the 48-year-old man's death was accidental or a suicide. He was struck by the train on a level crossing in the village of Petit-Croix, near Belfort in eastern France on Sunday, but his body was not discovered until staff and passengers got off at the next stop, in Mulhouse. "The body was found, stuck to the front right of the train, out of the driver's vision," an SNCF spokesman said, adding that an incident of this kind was "relatively rare". The remains of the victim's bicycle were recovered by police at the level crossing. France's TGVs travel at speeds of up to 322 km/h (200 mph) in regular service.
http://www.thelocal.fr/20140317/french-train-pulls-into-station-with Absolutely horrible death. Horrible day for anyone who was on the train and saw that upon exiting the train as well
I wound up having to collect somebody's gibs in a similar incident, once. The fact that it happened late at night kind of added to the creepiness, but I somehow got through it.
"LEVEL CROSSINGS ARE FOR PUSSIES LOL YOLO!" What a dick.
I'm really impressed to be honest. While a tragedy, Those are some harsh angles that would normally slide off that sort of thing after a short distance.
Absolutely horrible death. Most likely death in an instant..
That sounds rather contradictory
That sounds rather contradictory
I suppose it does; didn't think about it that way. I guess I don't always see an instant death as a completely good thing but in this scenario it might have been the best way to die..
That sounds rather contradictory
horrible way to go not so much for the conscious person himself, but in concept. Most people would like their body to be treated gently/respectfully after death, and his family won't get to do a viewing at the funeral. It's a big part of closure for many people
ofcourse it was accidental, why would a suicidal person ride a bicycle into a train?

You're going to need a spatula to scrape that off.
ofcourse it was accidental, why would a suicidal person ride a bicycle into a train?
Commit suicide and break the land speed record for a cyclist at the same time?
Uh, what do you do?
I've studied medicine, while I was doing my internship you often had to visit accident sites, help people if possible, or bring back the bodies if you couldn't help them. Since we're always short on hands, this was non-negotiable, really.
how the fuck do you not notice you hit a cyclist.
how the fuck do you not notice you hit a cyclist.
The same way that required cowcatchers to be installed on the front of steam engines in the first place.
People are stupid assholes http://www.cbsnews.com/news/police-mans-suicide-attempt-caused-crash-that-killed-couple/
it's always an expectant couple and I'm perpetually angry about these things
Short on hands? Why not just check the morgue? I'm sorry
Don't be. Sometimes, morbid humor was all we had to fall back on to not wind up fainting or throwing up at some stuff that we had to see.
how the fuck do you not notice you hit a cyclist.
Trains don't stop on a dime.
Trains don't stop on a dime.
They don't stop on a cyclist either, apparently.
Commit suicide and break the land speed record for a cyclist at the same time?
God dammit, I feel terrible for laughing at that.
how the fuck do you not notice you hit a cyclist.
the tgv is large, heavy and fast, and the cockpit windows are relatively small. i bet it's hard to notice a collision with a a cyclist if you happen to be looking away from the tracks.
How the hell does a body stick to a nose like that for such a long time? I would imagine it getting crushed underneath or flying off over the train
My guess is that because of the speed of the impact, the body dented in the front which is why it stayed on.
