The bloom was added for contrast in colour, otherwise the visual aspect of the machinimas would have looked bland and less colourful. True, it's unecessary, but it DOES enhance the visual quality.
How do you detach the camera from your character like that? Or were you just in SMP with someone recoding you.. And if that's the case, how were the movements so smooth and linear?

I believe he used a special mod for Minecraft machinimas.
We used more than one person. Erick filmed it, while I (Mat) played on Faolco1, The movements were made by running against blocks at a very steep angle. It's really not that difficult to do, it's just holding F1 and running around is difficult.
