Kazakhstan plans to boost uranium output by 10 percent to 19,600 metric tons this year, said Vladimir Shkolnik, chief executive officer of the state nuclear company, Kazatomprom. The Central Asian nation produced 17,803 tons of uranium in 2010. Areva SA, a French uranium miner, said production at its Trekkopje project in Namibia will be delayed because of the complexity of the $1 billion venture Full output will be pushed back to 2013. Trekkopje, 70 kilometers (43 miles) northeast of Swakopmund, was initially expected to reach full capacity in 2012. Upon commissioning, the Trekkopje mine will process 100,000 tons of crushed ore a day and produce 3,000 tons of uranium a year. Areva said last March it may cut its 2012 global output target of 12,000 metric tons by as much as 20 percent (to 9600 tons)
Source: http://nextbigfuture.com/2011/02/kazatomprom-will-boost-uranium.html
How much uranium is in the world?
How much extracted isn't the question, Where is it going, is.
How much extracted isn't the question, Where is it going, is.
Uranus.
I don't really have anything to compare this figure too. Is that significant?
And cue the sinister laugh.
That's a lot of cake.
That's a lot of cake.
I was hoping for less lemon frosting this year.
How much uranium is in the world?
There will be a huge amount if that star everyone's talking about goes supernova (neutrino shower, creates a lot of heavy elements) [editline]3rd February 2011[/editline]
[img_thumb]http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/9737/uranium.gif[/img_thumb]
I feel bad for knowing where that's from http://www.unitednuclear.com/ [editline]3rd February 2011[/editline] You can get a lot of awesome shit there (gibberelic acid is especially amazing if you like to plant vegetables/etc... increases germination rate of seeds to near-100%)
Guys, isn't this a bad thing? They didn't say the reason why they want to boost the production, or did i miss something
Guys, isn't this a bad thing? They didn't say the reason why they want to boost the production, or did i miss something
To make more money? It's news because it went from 5,000 a year to ~20,000 a year.
How much extracted isn't the question, Where is it going, is.
you don't do much with raw uranium it's probably going to french, uk and us nuclear plants as fuel
We need more nuclear power plants and research into them.
If it's genuinely for power plants, good news. If not, the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty would like a word with you, Kazakhstan.
If it's genuinely for power plants, good news. If not, the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty would like a word with you, Kazakhstan.
Like anyone cares about the NNPT. Oh, hello India.
That may be a lot of uranium, but you'd need a ton of centrifuges to refine it.
We need more nuclear power plants and research into them.
No, what we need is more research into nuclear fusion. Current fission reactors are just as bad as most current energy sources, maybe moreso considering the longevity and dangerousness of the waste they produce.

Saskatchewan has lots of Uranium as well. The grade of the uranium that comes out of the last two is about 100x the world average

I feel like I am playing OpenTTD.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R Call of Kazatomprom.
It's not like there is any problem here in sweden we have ALOT of uranium we arn't mining it due to political standpoints tho
It's not like there is any problem here in sweden we have ALOT of uranium we arn't mining it due to political standpoints tho
In Australia, we mine Uranium, and we give it to the most stable country in the world, and non-signatory to the NNPT - India! [editline]4th February 2011[/editline] Profits before politics.
