OK so I'm 18, still living with my parents, and was until recently driving a red truck. I was insured under the red truck while I was driving it, but from now until the 23rd I will not be driving this vehicle any more. I found a friend who was willing to let me "borrow" his car till the 23rd for an amount of money. My question is, is it illegal to drive this vehicle without insurance? Does the owner need to add me to his insurance policy or do I have to buy new insurance or what? Thanks for all your help.
Well .. if you dont have a insurrance its not good..
That basicly means:
If you are the cause of a traffic crash and you dont have a insurrance YOU GOTTA PAY with your own money. That means .. Hospital, crashed cars ... etc..

But doesn't car insurance work by the standard that the car is insured and not the driver?
In the US it is illegal to drive without insurance anyway.

If you have liability it works on all cars you drive as long as YOU are insured.

Actually it doesn't...at least not with mine...got into a crash with my dad's truck and my insurance company more or less laughed in my face
Over in the UK some insurance companies allow you to drive other cars and have third party cover on whatever car you're driving... With the owner's permission of course. That means if you have a crash then the other person is covered but not you. If the insurance on your truck is your own policy then have a look on the certificate of insurance to see if it says anything about driving other cars. If you are a named driver on someone's policy then you won't be covered to drive other cars.
I'd have a guess it's illegal to drive without insurance in the states as it is in a lot of countries. If you do have a crash then you can land yourself owing a lot of money and probably getting a bollocking from the law as well as having difficulties getting insured in the future so it's worth doing by the book. Give your insurance a ring and see if you're covered to drive already, if not then ask how much it'll cost to add another car to the policy for X amount of weeks or look at a temporary policy exclusively for the car.
I'm basing my facts on what I know about UK insurance but I'll guess most of the same stuff applies, apart from the stupdily high prices.

who are you with and did you cause the crash. If you caused it liability only covers the other person.
