PS4 is getting a whole load of F2P games... I'd say it's a good thing. edit: However on reflection, a Capcom f2p now terrifies me.

is it just me or does the guy that gets the torch tossed to him look a lot like zaeed from mass effect?
This is severely disappointing to me, I loved Dragon's Dogma to bits and I really hope this f2p aspect doesn't ruin anything. Though it probably will.
This game isn't much like Dragon's Dogma at all, to be honest :v:
It's supposed to be the sequel, is it not? EDIT: Nevermind, apparently it's not related to Dragon's Dogma at all. How did I not see this earlier? Now I'm even more disappointed. Dragon's Dogma is one of my favorite games. :(
I would rather pay $60 and get a game outright than start with nothing and be constantly pestered with extortionately priced "micro"transactions.
Well I'm going to maintain optimism that it wont be too extortionate. Also I see it this way, with the release of a new gen, the new games are going to cost a lot more for the first few months/year of it's life, as well as having a slow build trickle of new game. F2P games will be there to fill the void of new releases. Planetside 2, Warframe, Blacklight Retribution and War Thunder are all set to launch around the PS4's launch window. They're not the best games ever but they're all fun to play and most of all free.
I knew Capcom couldn't resist sticking in their bullshit. Watch as it sells well but doesn't meet their unrealistically high predictions and is declared a failure.
I honestly prefer a few games I play being F2P, but I do agree that the games that charge you $20 for a gun or something are super awful

They released such quality dlcs as this dragon's dogma voice pack with 12 new voices

Hopefully it flops horribly and Capcom suffers for it. I want to watch this whole F2P thing crash and burn, I haven't played a fun F2P game since TF2, and even that started out as an actual payed-for title. [editline]21st September 2013[/editline] The most unfun, grindy, and horribly unoriginal things I have ever done in a game have always come from a F2P game. The only legitimate F2P game I like has to be Warframe, and even then it's pretty fucking grindy.

It's not the F2P part that worries me. It's the "being made by Capcom" bit. Well... it probably suits them better... Now they can actually include all the ridiculous content to be sold within the game, and no one could complain :suicide:
It's supposed to be the sequel, is it not? EDIT: Nevermind, apparently it's not related to Dragon's Dogma at all. How did I not see this earlier?
they're grindy because most of them are MMOs. it's kind of the nature of the genre, not the fact that it's f2p.
Warframe and many others are hardly MMO's, and F2P inherently promotes the usage of grindy mechanics. As a free to play game, you have to notice it's free to play, so the developers have to think of some way to incentivize people to spend money on the game. The most obvious way is usually either in the form of Pay-2-Win or excessive grinding unless you pay to speed it up. Valve is the only real developer out there that only deals in cosmetics, but the only reason that works is because Valve already makes an assload of money off of Steam and can afford to take losses if there were any, not to mention the giant economy they unwittingly put in place. [editline]21st September 2013[/editline]
It's not just the grind and item cost either. I've noticed that many F2P games just simply have really low production values are are just generally not very well polished games. Not to mention most of them are plagued by catastrophic balance problems. Oh, and the devs usually don't give two shits about what the community actually wants - give them $10 skins and guns instead.
Many F2P titles only became F2P because the devs and/or publisher realized the game just wasn't going to make it's money back if they sold it like any other game, so they put it in a F2P setting which would garner many more people to play the game than otherwise possible. Some say it's a way for a developer to make money off of a game which would've otherwise meant the end of the company - I'm not so kind, I actually wish some of these companies were flops because the people working in them clearly aren't competent in most cases. [editline]21st September 2013[/editline] There's absolutely nothing wrong with the concept of a F2P game - it's just that the concept itself promotes other behaviors which are generally very cancerous to games as a medium of entertainment.
Wow is that seriously just one guy's voice run through a filter 12 different times? And they thought nobody would notice?
Actually Male and Female both have 2 different VAs but regardless yes it's awful.
