The government says it will propose an "innovative and untested approach" to customs checks as part of its Brexit negotiations.
The model, one of two being put forward in a newly-published paper, would mean no customs checks at UK-EU borders.
The UK's alternative proposal - a more efficient system of border checks - would involve "an increase in administration", it admits.
A key EU figure said the idea of "invisible borders" was a "fantasy".

The "partnership" arrangement would be an "innovative and untested approach" which would remove the need for any customs checks between the UK and the EU. This would be because the UK's regime would "align precisely" with the EU's, for goods that will be consumed in the EU.
However, the UK would continue to operate its own checks on goods coming from outside the EU - and the government said safeguards would be needed to prevent goods entering the EU that had not complied with its rules.
These could include a repayment mechanism, which would see importers to the UK pay whichever is the higher tariff, Britain's or the EU's, and then face having to claim money back if their goods were sold to a customer in the region with a lower tariff.
An alternative scenario the government is proposing would involve the UK extending customs checks to EU arrivals - but under a "highly streamlined arrangement" to minimise disruption at ports and airports.
It said it would seek to make the existing system of customs checks "even more efficient", for example using number plate recognition technology at ports, which could be linked to customs declarations for what the vehicles are carrying, meaning the vehicles do not have to be manually stopped and checked.
The UK would also allow some traders to do self assessment, calculating their own customs duties.
However, the government acknowledged this option would still involve "an increase in administration" compared with being in the existing customs union.
Essentially it's one weird trick so that we can leave the customs union but still be in the customs union
Hahahahah.
Holy fuck.

So in essence they want to be a member of the EU while pretending to be independent? oh and eww icky immigrants begone.
politicians once again using buzzwords like innovative to sugarcoat the fact that they have no fucking plan.
their trade solution is also innovative in that they want to stay in the single market until they get better deals from the EU's neighbors, its also never been done because nobody has ever been stupid enough to completely sever all their trade deals overnight
the cruz healthcare amendment, innovative in that it creates a totally unworkable system where the healthy get to buy garbage, cover nothing plans for nothing, and the sick stuck on obamacare exchanges see their premiums explode.
fuckoff with this kind of innovation in government, the solutions are already out there our politicians just can't swallow the pills.

The plan is actually really simple - thinking outside the box, their roadmap uses innovative smart technology to proactively disrupt traditional paradigms of trade synergy, holistically streamlining cross-border logistics into a hyperlocal, seamless process. At the end of the day, this is a sea change in the framework of sustainable co-opetition.

You know those weaboo discussions with all the Japanese that make you feel like you're having a stroke? This is the English language equivalent, except rather than a stroke, I'm now in a coma. Both, of course, result in irreprable brai dmaage
I've noticed its a trend with the May government to use "X and Y" verbs with everything they do. Is this a common practice in the UK government in general or is it just May's government?
