Honestly, this should be the standard. It teaches people to man up to what they have done, and doesn't leave them with a nasty record of sitting in a prison cell.

I agree, for the most part. This should be the standard for first time offenders, as I'm assuming most of these people are, who commit petty crimes.
However, I feel like that last lady got off way too easily. I feel like a whole week of 8 hour days at the dump would be more effective than one, alongside a fine if she wasn't issued one.

yeah no, that was pretty bullshit, and actually useless, they could've had her work at a local rescue shelter so she could feel more guilty for letting a dog starve like that

Yep, I think it's one of the worst parts of our justice system is that it can essentially damn overall decent people to a terrible life because of something dumb they got up to once. Even being in jail for a few months can be quite disruptive and damaging.

I think the bizarre punishments like these are actually very clever, because they're very likely to stick in your mind and aren't cruel, and just appear to be mostly atypical forms of community service.

then again neither have I, but still not sure why you think a criminal record is somehow better than a little bit of embarrassment.
Yeah I mostly agree this is much better than the usual punishments, but there's that one little thing nagging for me. Soliciting a prostitute. I mean yeah it's in the law, it's illegal, nothing the judge can do about that I guess, but it's still fucking stupid.
