Describing the current situation in Russia as "very tense", Mr Gorbachev said Russia's President, Vladimir Putin had a "conservative line" which caused a "chilling effect" on its population, but made it easier for the government to govern the country.[/QUOTE] He looks so different, so old now. This sounds like the opposite to what Gorbachev was espousing the other day. He was sounding very nationalistic only a few weeks ago.
An even more brutal opposition stance was taken by Kasyanov(former RU PM between 2000-2004) in today's Hardtalk. He said that, if there was a media blackout for 3 months, Putin's approval rating would drop to 5%.
