Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A suicide bomber killed six people and wounded four others near the headquarters of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan on Saturday, officials said. The six killed were civilians, said Interior Ministry spokesman Siddiq Siddiqi. The explosion took place in Kabul's diplomatic quarters, home to a number of foreign embassies. Suicide attack kills 25 in eastern Afghanistan Among those killed in the explosion were children, Police Chief Ayoub Salangi said. There were no NATO casualties in the explosion near Camp Eggers, said Jamie Graybeal, a spokesman for the international forces. He said the base is secure. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack. "By targeting civilians, the insurgents have once again demonstrated that they have no respect for life, including young children, some of whom were playing in the area of the attack," the U.S. Embassy in Kabul said in a statement condemning the attack. "In addition, if reports that the suspected attacker was a teenager are true, the insurgents reveal their true nature, using the most impressionable and vulnerable to carry out their vile attacks." Police believe the assailant was between ages 13 and 20.
Source The bomber is thought to have been a teenager. From the BBC:
Child street hawkers are believed to have been caught in the blast and witnesses quoted by Reuters said small bodies could be seen being carried to ambulances. A police official speaking on condition of anonymity told AFP news agency: "Most of the victims are young children who gather around Isaf to sell small items to soldiers leaving or getting into the base." The US embassy, the Italian embassy and the presidential palace are also located near the site of the attack. A Taliban spokesman named Zabihullah Mujahid said the militant group had carried out the attack, targeting US intelligence. Scores of dignitaries are due to attend commemorations of Massoud's death in Kabul on Saturday, which is a national public holiday in his honour.
Source There were no ISAF casualties. UPDATE: The BBC confirms the suicide bomber was 14 years old.
People wonder why we are here. THIS is why, to try and prevent this kind of thing from happening. You may think that they would do this just because an ISAF base is there, but think. They only attack us while we are there. When we are gone, they will just simply start bombing other targets, like places of worship or places where other ethnic groups and tribes have meetings and get togethers. The violence will never stop, good thing that we are in the process of securing the pullout. It makes me sad that this kind of thing happens, these civilians had nothing to do with us. Also, keep in mind that the teenage boy that did this most likely did it under the threat that his family would be killed if he refused. That is how the Taliban operate, and that is why I hate them with a vengeance.

You cannot remove the problem without first destroying Islam, like any religion it has extremists. It's islam's religious "extremist" fighters that do this. Their religion supports this kind of behavior and promises them great rewards in the next life.

If the Taliban were to regain control of Afghanistan as they once had, there would be a lot less violence, besides the mandated violence under Taliban for what they perceive as offenses. I.E it would still be quite barbaric in our eyes, but there would be some semblance of order. However as it currently stands, Afghanistan is in limbo, many of the native anti-taliban groups are stronger than ever with ISAF support, are actually able to make an impact, and this new generation of Afghanis is probably going to be the first to grow up with a taste of democracy. In some ways, ISAF presence in Afghanistan will make it a better place for future generations, but it has to be said the current generations pay the price in blood while there is a war. So if ISAF were to suddenly fuck off like so many people suggest, it wouldn't make things peachy like so many people seem to think. This isn't Iraq, the Afghanis don't support the Taliban and the Taliban are not civilians taking up arms against foreign invaders. They just accepted them while they were in power because it was either strict following of Sharia Law under Taliban rule, or going back to what they had before when the russians pulled out: roaming bands of warriors raping, pillaging and generally doing whatever the fuck they wanted. Obviously it would've been better for the west to never have gotten involved in the first place, but it is what it is. Pulling out at this point would do nothing but send the country spiraling into more of a chaotic shitstorm.

They'd get a boost in recruits like you wouldn't believe. How about we build schools and educated the people so they don't get convinced to kill themselves and others because some extremist imam told them a fairytale about " going to paradise". Think about it. There's a reason the Taliban destroy schools/threaten teachers.
Well Jaeger, we ARE pulling out. By the end of 2014 we will be out of here. We know it, and they know it. They are going to step up the violence because of it, unfortunately. Equally an unfortunate fact is that as soon as we leave the ANA and ANP will lose a guiding force and become less disciplined and effective. I hope that they don't, and thrive and keep stability, but that is just a hope. We shall see in 2014.

My opinion is to get the fuck out of that pointless shithole. I'd like to think of nato/us trying to solve miracles but this thing was lost the moment they set foot in there Current reason that people blow themselves up is "enemy troops invaded, blow them up. Your god will reward you and it's all you've been taught from childhood" for those extremists I mean if they won't have anyone to target and blow up, are they just going to keep blowing up people for a non-existant reason? Are they going to destroy their own people up for absolutely no reason at all?

The problem isn't the religion at all, it's just the people and their twisted perception of reality. In the words of a Muslim:
It should be clear, then, that the oft-used term "Muslim terrorist" is almost an oxymoron: by killing innocent people, a Muslim is committing a grave sin, and Allaah is Just. This phrase is offensive and demeaning of Islam, and it should be avoided.
Suicide is also a sin according to Islam, but suicide bombers are a common tactic.
