Boris Johnson made Foreign Secretary in new UK Cabinet.
New Prime Minister Theresa May has made Boris Johnson, the former London mayor who led the Brexit campaign, foreign secretary in her new government.
He replaces Philip Hammond, who becomes chancellor. Ex-Energy Secretary Amber Rudd is home secretary and Eurosceptic David Davis is the Brexit secretary.
Ex-chancellor George Osborne was fired, the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg said.
On arriving at Downing Street, Mrs May vowed to lead a government that works for all, not just the "privileged few".
what the fuck

BBC caught Theresa May earlier and asked her why she chose Boris for such a crucial job, she said "should be a right laugh, heh"

I both believe and don't believe that statement.
Theresa May and Maggie Thatcher are not two women who are doing/have done wonders for the idea of a woman in charge.
well, it's not like he can do much to make our international reputation worse at this point
Funny cuz he publicly announced a few days ago that he wanted Leadsom as PM.

he could do that but in a more metaphorical sense to other countries
Boris isn't even the worst appointment so far, there's plenty of other wingnuts in the cabinet. So much for my hope of a one nation government.
Either a stoke of genius or a calamity in the making.
Either way - Prof Bale's not wrong - a strangely safe bet for the Tories' electoral chances. He either does something decent or fucks it all up for himself with relatively minor comeback on May and the other grown ups.

like we care.
Well, the foreign secretary being disliked by most of our allies is a slight issue.

Think before you speak.
He's foreign secretary.

Unless you're suggesting we become a hermit kingdom that's not too good

jesus christ how the fuck can you not care that a FOREIGN country doesn't like our FOREIGN SECRETARY. The one person they are actually meant to like and they don't like him. It's like you want us to regress from the rest of the world and stick it out all alone.

You should. A quote from a US govt official: "Brexit has diminished Britain in this town. Germany is now going to be more central to US policy in Europe. That is doubly true with the Boris appointment."

He's a little englander so he probably does want us to become a hermit kingdom.
Get real, do you honestly think if they didn't like him that they would say so?
It's a bit more mature than that in politics.

So the fact they're openly saying they don't like Boris is, what, an admission that they ~secretly~ love him?
I don't think it's necessary for a foreign secretary, or any diplomat who is supposed to interact with other countries, to be liked by foreign countries. He works for the UK after all.
It's important he has diplomatic skills, not personal charm. Personal charm can be helpful but it's not a replacement for diplomacy.

Depends on how your bias allows you to choose what to believe?
The US State Department has said it is looking forward to working with newly-appointed foreign secretary Boris Johnson.
The US will always be able to work with British officials because of its "deep, abiding" relationship with Britain, State Department spokesman Mark Toner said at a press conference.
or
We don't like Boris, a source said.
Boris Johnson arguably has negative diplomatic skills - meaning he's very good at pissing everyone off, running his mouth and getting nothing done, not unlike Trump. It's almost as if he was chosen for the role to put a final end to his political career.

I like how the article makes it sound like Hillary will be deeply offended by the Kenyan comment. It obviously isn't good having people upset with Boris already but to think Hillary will be personally offended when she essentially said the same things is hilarious. Still I can see Boris making some ridiculous comments about being a New Yorker and pissing pretty much everyone off.
Are you fucking kidding me?
This has to be a joke. Nobody's that idiotic.... Right?

You honestly believe that May would appoint someone as foreign secretary to fail at this crucial time to end his career, when he wouldn't of had much of a career without being appointed?
You are delusional.
so he campaigned to leave only to accept a job that involves constant involvement with foreign affairs
ok
I know British humor is one of its kind, but when will the punchline finally drop? This joke has been dragging on for a bit too long.

are you for real?
I think this is pretty fitting. Appointing an idiot to office, good first day as prime minister.

Hey at least Osborne got ousted, that's at least a positive

Since when did wanting to leave the European Union mean the same as cutting off all diplomatic relations with the rest of the planet?
