Boris isn't even the worst appointment so far, there's plenty of other wingnuts in the cabinet. So much for my hope of a one nation government.

I don't think it's necessary for a foreign secretary, or any diplomat who is supposed to interact with other countries, to be liked by foreign countries. He works for the UK after all. It's important he has diplomatic skills, not personal charm. Personal charm can be helpful but it's not a replacement for diplomacy.
