I like that the player wasn't using cover.
cover shooters were cool when they first came out but once you really played enough, you realize just how boring it is to peek out and shoot until your screen goes red, then you hide until things go back to normal and repeat the process
Looks great. I really, really hope it won't be a disappointment.
Wait, is he changing his class on the fly?
Classes are only in MP, you can pick whatever skills from each that you want in SP.
As long as it's somewhere around ME2 in terms of quality, I'll be happy
Wish I could wipe my mind of bioware's history before getting this game so I could play with a less cynical attitude
I'm confident that they won't screw this one up. Gameplay looks really good so far, miles better from previous games. I just hope the writing is somewhat decent. I'm not expecting good writing rather just something tolerable.
I really wish they could replicate the magic that was Mass Effect 2.
Only three abilities at a time?

The magic where they some how resurrected you back to whole after being blown up and rentering an atmosphere or the magic where black prometheus sludge made out of ten thousand humans who somehow fit in a cruiser sized vessel (with still billions of empty containers on it) form into a giant terminator that's somehow going to fit in a Reaper shell) or working for a guy that magically controls more logistical resources than the strongest state directed military in the galaxy (turians) randomly already knows what and where to look yet needs Shepard to do it for no particular reason?
That magic?
Or do you mean "the squadmate bants were totally awesome" and "these powers were pretty OP and that was OK"
Cause those are two totally different things and nostalgia doesn't cover both.
I like how they demonstrated the controller support for PC by just pausing the game and having the xbox button prompts at the bottom, but the menu includes an "exit to desktop" button. I think this is gonna be a very solidly performing game at least, if they manage to fuck up the plot (though not for nothing, ME1/2/3 were all fantastic all the way up until like the last 15 minutes of ME3, so idk why people keep bitching about the plot being shitty or something because it's really not).
God the Tempest is a sexy ship.
boy those were some boring looking enemies.
still unbelievably disappointed with what the plot is shaping up to be
still unbelievably disappointed with what the plot is shaping up to be
I'm reserving judgement until we see more of the actual plot rather than snippets with barely any context.
I'm more worried about how the open world approach might affect the rest of the game though... that's if it actually is open world and not just overworlds with fetch quests and most of the unique story missions etc. being different levels entirely.

Bioware's imagination isn't exactly keen on bright new things to explore.
I mean, the gameplay designer is a huge racist toward white people, but Bioware allows it, so maybe he just wants to see the same type of enemy to pretend he's killing white alien people. Iunno.

Boring looking enemies and boring looking gameplay.
Gameplay didn't look terrible but it really didn't wow me either. Wider access to skills sounds nice though.

I'm fine with a move away from cover based shooting but I feel like all they showed off here was just stomping around shooting things while tanking fire which imo is just as boring. He uses some dash move a few times but I don't feel like they really made good use of it.
The gameplay looks good. Really glad you won't be glued to cover the whole game this time.
Those enemies though, really not digging their look...

Literally all those things had explanations. Maybe not good enough for you but they were there.
I do prefer ME1 over anything the series and I do think ME2 overall was filler but you're really hating on the wrong aspects of that game.
Finding it kind of fucked up they brought this to CES. There's trying to widen your audience and then there's literally shelling out for useless advertising, this is a tech event aimed at industry people and investors not general public consumers.
ME2 is the best filler ever.
But where's that "woosh" move? I remember using that move all the time and I'll be really disappointed if it's not in there.
The music around 20 seconds reminds me of this piece of Prometheus.

Hope we get an SP and MP demo before release.
Looks better than the other footage at least, got my hopes up a bit.

There's a MP beta coming through this for PS4 and Xbone. Aside from that, I don't know.
I'm cautiously optimistic, their was a pretty decent game informer article about how ME3 controversy and the talent drain was devastating to them. They hoped to find some sort of redemption in this game, so at least they're aware I guess.
At the end of the day, game developers are just humans who have limitations, have their own tastes, their own visions, and making video games is damn hard, especially captivating story based ones. Any of us who in our silly teenage years desired to make their own video game knows just how difficult it is. Even with a team of educated individuals, the creative side will always be at risk of disappointment to the fans. I think it's really unfair how people treat and react to game developers not creating their exact image of the game, failing their expectations. These people aren't machines and they will make mistakes. Wait for the game to come on, watch gameplay, buy it or don't. There's no need to bash them or the like, they are just people doing a job and trying to realize a vision which is commendable whether it is good to you or not.
They're also reigned in by marketers and focus testers and advertisers and producers so that's not entirely true.
