• Flag Consideration Panel of New Zealand Announces 40 Potential Flag Designs
In reviewing flag designs, first and foremost, the Flag Consideration Panel were guided by the results of the ten week engagement programme across a range of communities where thousands of Kiwis shared what was special about New Zealand. This provided the Panel, and flag designers, with invaluable direction as to how New Zealanders see themselves and their country and how those values might best be expressed in a new flag. The Panel agreed a flag should: • unmistakably be from New Zealand and celebrate us as a progressive, inclusive, environmentally connected country, that has a sense of its past and a vision of its future; • be a ‘great’ flag, which means that; it adheres to the principles of good flag design, has an enduring quality which will not become outdated, and would work well in all situations from celebration to commemoration; • be inclusive, in that all New Zealanders should be able to see themselves within it; and • not have any impediments to its use as a potential New Zealand flag.
[T]http://img.scoop.co.nz/stories/images/1508/flags.jpg[/T] Source Really cool that Fiji and New Zealand are designing new flags to give them their own national identity. I wonder if the other commonwealth nations will follow suit.
I really like the ones with the koru and the stars. Swirls aren't very common in vexillography. Lots of good designs, though, it'll be a tough choice for them.
third from the upper-left is the best, imo.
IMO black and green has a Middle East vibe to it, red, white and blue with stars screams USA.
I know they're probably trying to stay away from the past but the Black Jack is rather neat. [editline]10th August 2015[/editline]
IMO black and green has a Middle East vibe to it, red, white and blue with stars screams USA.
The current NZ flag is red, white and blue with stars.
This is my pick. And yeah this is really neato that we get to re-design the flag.
that color scheme always reminds me of the mlb logo
I still think the one with the kiwi bird shooting lazers out of it's eyes is the best one
IMO black and green has a Middle East vibe to it, red, white and blue with stars screams USA.
There are tons of flag that are red, white, and blue. Also a lot of flags with stars on them, like NZ's current flag, or Australia's flag.
Britain still hasn't adopted this one yet
Should go Silver Fern on black. Might just be the flag of the sports team but unless you want to put some Tengwar script on, it represents NZ as well as you'll get.
I like the look of the Black Jack but Koru Fin looks best as a national flag
IMO black and green has a Middle East vibe to it, red, white and blue with stars screams USA.
There are 30 countries with red, white, and blue flags, which is the highest of all combinations by far. 16 have red and white, which is second highest. Seems pretty likely they'll follow that route, both as a nod to Britain and as a way of signifying their western-ness.
I like the first and fifth designs for their new-age feel, but if we're going for the Maori heritage approach then yeah, it's either the third of sixth design IMO.
I can't believe we're wasting money on this shit. thanks for pulling the wool over the sheeps (lol) eyes national.

Sad to see my design didn't make it [t]http://puu.sh/6DCpt.jpg[/t] fern it
If New Zealand drops their current flag I'll fail to recognise them as a country.
I quite like this one:

I like Black Jack the most.
Half of them remind me of this
I like this one:
The fern is way to complex for a flag. A flag should be made up relatively simple shapes. I like that C one in the top row - then again I ain't Kiwi.
I just wish we'd spend the millions of dollars on making sure our lesser off citizens can afford to send their kids to school with lunch or shoes instead of pretending changing the fucking flag was important. it's all just a cover to distract kiwi citizens while they signed the TPPA in anyways.

This is merely a fraction of a cent of every dollar NZ taxpayers pay.
$25 million doesn't buy lunches or shoes for kids across an entire nation. This is merely a fraction of a cent of every dollar NZ taxpayers pay.
if we go by the number presented in the title of this article: http://www.inequality.org.nz/why-the-poverty-line-is-valid-and-265000-children-really-are-in-poverty/ and that's all I'm going to go by bc I'm not going to go too far into this bc I'm far too sick and lazy and ill-equipped to debate properly, we could have around 95 dollars for each of these children, enough to buy them a pretty fuckin cheap pair of shoes for every single one of them. sure, there's not any money accounted for food here but I'm sure a significant amount of these children probably have shoes. the money very well could have gone at least into something more beneficial for new zealands youth than a fucking flag that by a mostly overwhelming public opinion noone even cares about changing in the first place. $25 million is also only the price for the referendums, not including all the money that will have to be spent replacing all instances of the current nz flag with the new one, which will require replacing all govt issue documents.
$25 million doesn't buy lunches or shoes for kids across an entire nation. This is merely a fraction of a cent of every dollar NZ taxpayers pay.
Yea, its like $5 tax per person. Fucking nothing.
I like this one:
I've never understood why this flag doesn't have the Epsilon Crucis, considering that Australia's flag has it.
I've never understood why this flag doesn't have the Epsilon Crucis, considering that Australia's flag has it.
The star has 7 points which is supposed to represent the 6 federating colonies and an extra point for Papua and any other future territories. That's why New Zealand lacks it.
