Squatters are starting to leave a northwest Calgary duplex under police supervision, potentially ending a high-profile occupation of what a tenant had claimed was his embassy. Most of the squatters remain indoors, though they have been loading a vehicle with their belongings... ..."We are leaving in peace," a man from the house wearing a purple shirt, who didn’t identify himself, said earlier on Friday. "We didn’t realize that all this was this way. I regret I wasn’t informed before that anything was going down this way." ...When Antonacci changed the locks and declared her property his own, she was horrified to learn he had taken over the entire space, painting the floor and bedroom black. The messy suite also sported a boardroom table with chairs in the basement, where Caverhill said he was holding civil disobedience classes. "I’m relieved," she told the Herald Friday morning. Now, she says while she’s grateful police have removed Antonacci from her property, she fears she may be facing costs to repair the duplex. "That’s what scares me, I’ve got a lot of expenses," she said from her Sylvan Lake area home. The man at the house said he was sorry for any hardship caused to the Caverhill. "If any harm was done to the lady we sincerely apologize, I wasn’t aware until later on when I got in, now I’m here," he said. "I know this is her house and she can have it."
http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Other+squatters+move+into+Calgary+duplex+after+Freeman+arrested+overnight/8965032/story.html
so a "sovereign citizen" claims this lady's house is his embassy, then gives it to squatters, and the squatters leave? what about the asshole that started it all?
so a "sovereign citizen" claims this lady's house is his embassy, then gives it to squatters, and the squatters leave? what about the asshole that started it all?
The "Asshole citizen" should be paying 100% for all the damages + extra compensation.
squatters are fucking terrible
so a "sovereign citizen" claims this lady's house is his embassy, then gives it to squatters, and the squatters leave? what about the asshole that started it all?
It says he was arrested doesn't it?
squatters are fucking terrible
This is why I like America. I imagine squatters are dealt with much better here. We have our issues but hey, I'm used to the problems here, I'm better off in the US.
It says he was arrested doesn't it?
Which is damn good.
squatters are fucking terrible
This kind yeah. The ones that occupy abandoned property that just lies dormant are mostly ok though.
I am sick of this 'soverign citizen' bullshit.. People who think they supersede the law, simply because they feel entitled to.
squatters are fucking terrible
no they aren't. people who own property and don't utilize that property are terrible.
no they aren't. people who own property and don't utilize that property are terrible.
LMAO "it's your property and you own all rights to it but since you aren't currently using it I'll take it"
LMAO "it's your property and you own all rights to it but since you aren't currently using it I'll take it"
"lol the government gave me a little piece of paper that lets me utilize this land for my own benefit i guess i'll just abandon it then get pissed off when other people want to utilize it." you have no property and no right to land you cannot or choose not to personally utilize.
I imagine squatters are dealt with much better here. We have our issues but hey, I'm used to the problems here, I'm better off in the US.
Alot of squatters are just regular people screwed over my the system/banks.
"lol the government gave me a little piece of paper that lets me utilize this land for my own benefit i guess i'll just abandon it then get pissed off when other people want to utilize it." you have no property and no right to land you cannot or choose not to personally utilize.
You mean that piece of paper that requires you to pay taxes on?
"lol the government gave me a little piece of paper that lets me utilize this land for my own benefit i guess i'll just abandon it then get pissed off when other people want to utilize it." you have no property and no right to land you cannot or choose not to personally utilize.
It's still your land.
Isn't "Sovereign Citizen" literally an oxymoron?
"lol the government gave me a little piece of paper that lets me utilize this land for my own benefit i guess i'll just abandon it then get pissed off when other people want to utilize it."you have no property and no right to land you cannot or choose not to personally utilize.
What about landlords and rental agreements? That isn't exactly personal utilization.
It's still your land.
legally it is. morally and logically it isn't.
legally it is. morally and logically it isn't.
how would you like it if one day after a hard day at middle school you came home and found that there were a bunch of squatters in your house that changed the locks and said "this is our house now"
you have no property and no right to land you cannot or choose not to personally utilize.
said no rational person, ever.
"lol the government gave me a little piece of paper that lets me utilize this land for my own benefit i guess i'll just abandon it then get pissed off when other people want to utilize it." you have no property and no right to land you cannot or choose not to personally utilize.
please explain what happens to the money I spent to acquire the property and the time and funds I spent on upkeep? Since I don't personally live there or rent it out you think it's ok for someone to forcefully break-in?
"lol the government gave me a little piece of paper that lets me utilize this land for my own benefit i guess i'll just abandon it then get pissed off when other people want to utilize it." you have no property and no right to land you cannot or choose not to personally utilize.
Oh cool, so when you go on holiday I can have your place.
Isn't "Sovereign Citizen" literally an oxymoron?
I think that's the point of the title
how would you like it if one day after a hard day at middle school you came home and found that there were a bunch of squatters in your house that changed the locks and said "this is our house now"
Not to agree with yawmwen but that's different from his example. He's talking about someone owning a house or an old factory and leaving them unused and abandoned for a very long period of time
legally it is. morally and logically it isn't.
But you're paying a lot of money for it. Are you saying you're required to be in your home 24/7 because otherwise you're not entitled to your own property? What if you step outside for a minute, or what if you leave for an hour or two to go to a friend's? What if you're away for days because of work and vacations and other plans? Rethink what you said because your argument is collapsing on itself.
"lol the government gave me a little piece of paper that lets me utilize this land for my own benefit i guess i'll just abandon it then get pissed off when other people want to utilize it." you have no property and no right to land you cannot or choose not to personally utilize.
Perhaps this is how they feel it is best utilized. Who are you to say otherwise?
I love Sovereign Citizens, their so hilariously idiotic. Sadly they sometimes cause problems for others such as this.
"lol the government gave me a little piece of paper that lets me utilize this land for my own benefit i guess i'll just abandon it then get pissed off when other people want to utilize it." you have no property and no right to land you cannot or choose not to personally utilize.
You are edgier then ever

I think people should consider that just about any "utilization" of property has a high chance of increasing the taxes on it, which people may feel they are not able to pay but are able to cope with how it is now and thus do not 'utilize' it in any way.
Perhaps this is how they feel it is best utilized. Who are you to say otherwise?
idk i think the people out in the cold are totally allowed to say that abandonment is not proper utilization of property. but that's just me, a rational compassionate person.
legally it is. morally and logically it isn't.
Lol arbitrary morality means literally nothing. I would actually say this is moral considering the vast majority of the population respect land laws. Ownership of property has been a foundation of society since before the Romans We are never going to get rid of that concept due to how deeply ingrained it is in both our psyche and our culture.
