I just figured I'd post some oldies that everyone should listen to at least once. A lot of you probably listen to contemporary music for the most part, but there's some really great stuff that was made by the generations before us. The reason this thread focuses on african-american artists is that they really exemplified the transition from jazz and the blues to rock and roll. Much of the music that was created in that era was called "doo-wop." Cab Calloway - Reefer Man Little Richard - The girl can't help it The Drifters - On Broadway The Turbans - When You Dance That's basically all I have to share for now. I hope you guys enjoy some of these songs. They're some of my favorites.

Oh god, this is a thread for me! Here is a video from 1956 of Big Bill Broonzy singing in a bar! I found it a few days ago and I love it. Big Bill Broonzy was a folk/blues singer and guitarist during the 20's-50's. He has some really interesting songs such as "Just a dream" or "White, Brown, Black"! http://bluesnote.multiply.com/video/item/18 Perhaps it doesn't belong here so much, since it isn't really doo-wop/jazz/rock n roll, but to make up for that, here you go:
Riley B King, or BB king

Glad you found it. Also another really great doo-wop song; The Del Vikings - Whispering Bells Fast-paced and upbeat.

Billie Holiday? Ella Fitzgerald? Dizzie Gillespie? Sonny Rollins?... If you're American and you don't know these artists then you should be ashamed.
Riley B King, or BB king
BB is the best blues guitarist IMO. Such a great artist..
The Ink Spots.
Other then the one song used in FO3, their music wasn't that great to be honest.
BB is the best blues guitarist IMO. Such a great artist..
Indeed, he is actually my favourite blues musician, and my favourite musician in general right after Queen.

Junior Wells is good, although it's early 60's-late 50's I have plenty of prominent black artists as my favourites, but most of them are 20's-30's, like Blind Willie McTell [editline]12:40AM[/editline]
Other then the one song used in FO3, their music wasn't that great to be honest.
shout brother shout, if i didn't care, do i worry are all really good
