If you get a 26 year old swimmer makes it to the Olympics for the first time, do you think they will make it back when they are 30? 34? Its possible, but unlikely. That more than any reason is why they have to be held on a regular basis so people can plan their training and lifestyle to get there. However, holding the Olympics in Rio was an absolutely awful idea. Every athlete is going to get sick half way through and be unable to compete

The Olympics will not be suspended, it's highly unlikely anything major will happen(just like the world cup, when everyone acted like it would cause the end of all things). Also, the reason the state is broken is due to the sudden oil price drop and the current/past governors over the last 12 years being absolute imbeciles and giving endless tax breaks for companies, at least this will break the hold PMDB(shittiest party in Brazil) has on Rio over the last 12 years, but it's not like the federal government is going to ignore that, since more than 1/3 of the money that goes to the federal government comes from Rio and São Paulo, in a way, Rio will just get some of its taxes back.

How about no considering that we have problems of corruption, mismanagement, as well as disease fears to worry about if the olympics are held in Brazil lol either move it to another country or call it off

I understand the impulse to hold the Olympics in a new continent (actually there was Mexico before if you're talking about Latin America rather than South America, but whatever), but this was obviously coming. Why did they bid for both the Olympics and the World Cup? Really bizarre. Why hold it in Rio rather than a safer city? Why even hold it at all? The only purpose seems to be dickwaving about how far Brazil has come. Okay, it has gotten richer, but that doesn't mean you should waste a shitload of money holding the Olympics and World Cup. How about consolidating your success and fiscal condition first? In the future, only corrupt oil dictatorships will be holding these sports events. Think Qatar (World Cup) and Azerbaijan (European Games). Democracies find it hard to justify spending the money to the public, and most countries don't have the finances regardless, leaving only a few countries available as long as these events are so ridiculously expensive.
