Gunmen have launched an attack on the Radisson Blu Hotel in the centre of Mali's capital, Bamako.
The hotel's owners said that two people had locked in 140 guests and 30 employees, the AFP news agency reports its statement as saying.
Police have surrounded the hotel, which the gunmen entered shooting, and shouting "God is great!" in Arabic, a security source told Reuters.
A BBC reporter says the US-owned hotel is popular with expats working in Mali.
In August, suspected Islamist gunmen killed 13 people, including five UN workers, during a hostage siege at a hotel in the central Malian town of Sevare.
France, the former colonial power in Mali, intervened in the country in January 2013 when al-Qaeda-linked militants threatened to march on Bamako after taking control of the north of the country.
A someone has said it's Jihadists:
"It's all happening on the seventh floor, jihadists are firing in the corridor," a security source told AFP
Oh for fuck's sake. I hope this doesn't just become a recurring thing now.
Christ, not again. How many instances like this will we see in the upcoming future?

I can see this getting media attention.
Not islams finest period in time, these days.
So this is their new tactic... taking lots of hostages and then try to kill them all? I hope this wont happen again...

Islamic extremists have been doing stuff like this for quite a while. The Kenya mall shooting had like 100 deaths.

There has been at least one terrorist incident almost every day of 2015, mostly in developing countries, so about 300 per year.
But of course the media only cares about incidents that affects the west, so you won't hear about them.

Yes I know, but it feels like they will focus more on this type of tactic.

You can watch the reports here live.
Something is gonna give eventually and the Western world is gonna push back.
I guess the Paris thing acted as a call-to-arms for extremists, unless ISIS weren't lying about that 'coordinated attack' thing.
Apparently they're releasing hostages that can cite the Koran.
Learn one passage and get a "get out of a hostage situation free" card guys.

This is what struck me.
"Earlier, a security source has told Reuters that some hostages who were able to recite verses of the Koran were being freed."
They are getting increasingly ballsy here.

just make sure you listen to whoever actually knows it, so when they get to you, just copy that person

French GIGN are on their way to Mali.
Pretty awful how the 3rd world doesn't have the assets to oppose terrorists like a competent police force and intelligence agencies
Local military forces have apparently stormed the building.

2-bit nations usually botch things like these. Expect a blood bath. GIGN won't be there in time.
Against terrorists i think military tactics are required, regular police tactics are usualy against people who fear death.

What scale of time are you using in this case?
I mean it's gonna happen again somewhere within the next 10 years of course.

Yeah, happens all the time yet it's only when they hear about it that people go "oh looks like this is happening more often now". Perception bias.

They may. Apparently the gunmen are hunkered down on the top floor while Malian special forces advised by US Special Forces are evacuating floor by floor working their way up
GIGN working double time. Damn.
This is going to be the new norm until we kill every last one of these pieces of shit.
Security Minister says all hostages have been evacuated with 18 or so who were initially killed when the gunman stormed the place, and the terrorists are just holed up now

Good. Kill the fuckers.
I hope the police forces killcount goes up with this
Tell me, Islamists, if you can: you have destroyed so much. What is it exactly that you have created? Can you name even one thing?
I thought not.

They've created more hate.

If this keeps happening, they'll change their tactics. They'll ask different questions, more obscure traditions, and even if this causes the deaths of innocent Muslims, they'll just shrug it off and laugh, saying that they'll reach heaven anyway.
Fox News says 27 dead. Hopefully it's the terrorists, not the innocent people :/
