http://www.politico.com/story/2016/04/treasurys-lew-to-announce-hamilton-to-stay-on-10-bill-222204
Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Wednesday will announce plans to both keep Alexander Hamilton on the front of the $10 bill and to knock Andrew Jackson off the front of the $20 in favor of Harriet Tubman, sources tell POLITICO.Lew is expected to roll out a set of changes that also include putting leaders of the women’s suffrage movement on the back of the $10 bill, and incorporating civil rights era leaders and other important moments in American history into the $5 bill. Also, Jackson isn’t getting completely booted off the $20 bill. He’s likely to remain on the back.
Forgive me if this is actually a terrible idea, I admit I'm ignorant on the issue for the most part, but why do bills necessarily have to be permanently changed? Why can't they do to bills what they do with coins and rotate the images on them every couple of years? That way there could be a much broader range of influential Americans without necessarily having to take anyone off for the most part.
Should have went with Eleanor Roosevelt, but hey it's not my decision.
Tubman was fucking rad. I'm always excited to see new currency designs.
I want military themed money. I'd rather have a bill with jets on it or something than any of these people.
Even better, why not a map of Hiroshima 1945

On a coin level, it doesn't have such an effect, but saving a $20 every year because it has a new face on it probably will have a larger effect on the economy at large. Not saying that such a thing would "seriously" hurt an economy but poking yourself with a stick will still hurt without causing permanent damage.
Great choice imo

If you're constantly changing the bill design, it will allow lower quality counterfeits to more easily be passed off as real currency. Also, it takes a lot of work to produce the designs. They are actually hand engraved in metal multiple times, not just printed by a computer.

Also if i'm not mistaken, it takes a lot of money to streamline the creation of the engraving plate and the design of the currency note itself, to say nothing of the busload of anti-counterfeiting measures that have to be included in the actual design of the bills.
another reason for not frequently swapping out currency facing is that it makes it harder to spot counterfeits without having to marker test everything
Yes that's what American money needs, pictographs of stuff everybody buys with lots of it
If that's the case we really shouldn't be putting a picture of a black woman on the $20 bill
Harriet Tubman was kind of lame though.

Every vending machine in the land would need reprogrammed if the one and the five got a significant change(And I'm pretty sure changing the mugshot would necessitate it). Bankers, cashiers would need far more training to spot counterfeit bills, which isn't as difficult when you have a stable image on each side. It just isn't worth it.
Makes perfect sense. Tubman ferried slaves across the North/South border; Jackson ferried Native Americans to the promised land of Oklahoma.
Harriet Tubman was kind of lame though.
Harriet was more of an American and a better person than Jackson in all honesty
Harriet Tubman was kind of lame though.
Why was she lame?
Why was she lame?
fighting slavery isn't ~in~ this year
Why was she lame?
She didn't shoot anybody Jackson shot a lot of people
Harriet Tubman was kind of lame though.
not as lame as jackson lol if i had to choose someone that was cool it'd be Teddy Roosevelt
Ah, missed that point. Maybe then Eleanor Roosevelt, as someone else suggested. I could possibly see Susan B Anthony as another choice, perhaps even Harriet Tubman
Called it? Honestly this is not a very surprising choice, especially since they wanted to do it in the name of equality.
Ah, I see! Yeah, I had actually thought of the possibility of counterfeiting, but the points about overall cost and the problem with collectors actually make a lot of sense. Thanks for your answers, guys!
Watch as all the racist rednecks boycott 20 dollar bills.
Harriet was more of an American and a better person than Jackson in all honesty
Jackson was against the central banks. I suspect he would not want his face on any type of currency.
Watch as all the racist rednecks boycott 20 dollar bills.
There's an idea, stock up on all the Jackson bills while you can and then sell them at Klan meetings at an upcharge.
Harriet Tubman was kind of lame though.
So freeing slaves is lame? So running free from slavery, but turning around to help those in bondage despite putting her own life at risk is "lame"? Sorry, I guess it isn't as cool as forcing people off of their land at gunpoint
Jackson was completely opposed to paper money
Hahah what, he was against paper money and he was put on a note? Was someone having a laugh when they decided to put him on one? I love the idea that people decided to put him on a note just to spite the guy lol. [editline]20th April 2016[/editline] I say if the guy didn't even like money and probably wouldn't have liked to be on a note, it's just more reason to take him off.
oh wow thats actually pretty cool.
Even better, why not a map of Hiroshima 1945
Even better, why not like "Great American Memes of 2016 Limited Edition US Currency"?
