Pretty harsh but I do agree with the balance in Black Mesa. Enemy accuracy and speed is bit unfair but that's about it. Mostly everything else was good. Here's hoping that Steam version is gonna be much better in terms of balance and animations.
The only thing i agree with is the combat, the extremely fast headcrabs and vorts, and the accuracy of the HECU.
i've never been a fan of how harsh Gggman is in his videos.
i do agree with what he's saying in this video but the way he words it and actually says it just makes him come off as an asshole and unprofessional.
Gonna be?
Nothing new in the animations department
Well, all the first person animations have been redone except the hivehand.
He bitches about how its now $20 (oh boy here we go again) for a previously free mod.
If he's such a bitch about it, he can still download the free mod easily. Course it won't have MP nor Xen, but it's still there.
In my opinion I think $20 is worth for a soon-to-be full game like this; It rather boggles my mind that people like this bitch about cost when the game was made entirely voluntarily by the devs.
I'm actually going to buy this tonight. I have the mod but damn these guys deserve my money.

Yeah I agree, it would be much worse if it was developed with slave labor.
I disagree with every point, even ones you may think are valid, because he's comparing it to Half-life. This isn't a texture pack, it's a full reimagining. If you played Black Mesa without playing Half-life barely any of these would be highlighted. Of course it's going to be different.
I'm not going to respond to the 'wah, it's paid now' thing. Not worth my time.
How much better are HECU to fight now? I heard they were a big and their AI was really unfair.
They're so much god damn better to fight now it's not even funny
I still think they desperately need hit reactions.

I'm personally really happy with the AI in BM, as I've pretty much always found the AI in Half-Life to be way too predictable and easy to kill (no shit, it's a game from the 90's, the AI WAS impressive back then, though)
when his main argument regarding the apparently bad combat is "the enemies aren't dumb as bricks cannon-fodder anymore, shit game", it just becomes a joke
Also, "The levels are too detailed now", what?
I usually like this guys reviews but this one felt like straight up bullshit
He literally says "I could look at this with rose-tinted glasses" and acts like he isn't, yet his entire review and criticisms are based around comparing it to HL1 in every way.
That makes no fucking sense, the people who feel like he does about the mod are usually nostalgic for HL1
Less than a minute in and I've already got a headache from the exaggerated leaning.
Does Gordon stand diagonally when he runs? Eugh.

You can disable it. I personally like it, but I can see why people wouldn't.
The retail game actually plays really nice now, there are a few problems (namely the helicopter) but otherwise it was a joy to play through even on hard difficulty.
I don't know what they did to the weapons in that game, but they're some of the most satisfying weapons ive ever used in a source game, the fantastic animations, great models, solid sound design, and the fact that you could see and hear the shells bouncing around was amazing to me.
I actually felt like some of the weapon sounds were just kinda there, though the MP5 sounds fantastic and I love the shells bouncing.
Every game should have shell bouncing sounds that are audible, makes you feel like you are firing something tangible.
While I feel he is too harsh in this video, I do agree about the combat being annoying.
I've heard the Steam release fixes it, but I'm waiting for it to leave Early Access before I buy it.
Unlike the Skyrim Workshop shit, Black Mesa is now a standalone game so I don't mind paying them.
His harshness traipses into outright ad hominem and hyperbole quite often and it makes this whole video sound less like a critique and more like a rant. Which is unfortunate because there are bits I agree with, like the quickness of enemies and the unnecessary clutter. But god damn, he could do with a bit less venom.
Also his hand-waiving away of the work that went into BMS is obnoxious. The metaphor at the end with the kid coming in last place at a race was about as stupid a comparison as someone could make. Congratulations on not only patronizing people by comparing their labor to an inept child, but simultaneously using a race metaphor in which there are no other people racing, on top of dismissing the games praise as pitty. Sorry but who else has remade any portion of the original Half-Life?
BMS has no contemporary to compare it too, so he compares it Half-Life, which would be fine had he not also placed Half-Life onto a pedestal and put a glass case of nostalgia around it.
Are the maps any different from HL1 or is it all just a straight remake? A lot of the maps look pretty close to the originals and I think it'd be a lot cooler if they changed up the maps and their layouts for a new experience once they finish the game.
I see where he's coming from, maybe Half-Life: Source is better suited for him.
