The soldier who lost all four limbs in an IED explosion in Iraq in 2009, showed the world his newly transplanted arms Tuesday. Brendan Marrocco, 26, the first soldier to survive after losing all four limbs, received his new arms in a 13-hour operation that involved 16 surgeons on December 18 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Marrocco received his two new arms from a deceased donor, becoming one of only seven people in the United States who have undergone successful double-hand transplant. His transplants involved the connection of bones, blood vessels, muscles, tendons, nerves and skin on both arms, and was the most extensive and complicated limb transplant procedure so far performed in the U.S., according to a hospital statement. Though doctors say it will take years for the Marrocco to fully recover, it appeared as he brushed the hair from his forehead with his left arm at the news conference, that he may get there far faster than predicted. In reality, Marrocco won’t have much time on his hands. “He’ll be doing therapy to make his hands work six hours a day,” Shores said. “There’s no amount of surgery we can do to make something work if the patients aren’t going to put an incredible amount of effort into this afterwards. He isn’t just sitting a home playing video games. It’s a full time job. That’s why we picked him. He’s demonstrated how hard he’s willing to work. He’s go that fighting spirit.” Not to miss the last word, Marrocco said with a smile, “I think video games can be great therapy.”
Source This is really awesome that we can do stuff like this now. Despite the guy losing all of his limbs, he seems to have high spirits and it hasn't really seemed to affect him too much, at least not mentally.
What a shame. [editline]29th January 2013[/editline] About losing the limbs that is. [editline]29th January 2013[/editline] Luckily they can rebuild him.

All four limbs, christ
Incoming "I NEVER ASKED FOR THIS HUEHUEHUE XD RTE AND SUB" Anyway, It's pretty amazing to think somebody who lost his arms can get new ones, It's like we're in the future already.
Though it's rare, it's still amazing to say that we live in a world that we can give people limbs after they've been lost and they can use them with a lot of training and effort.
Masturbation is probably really awkward for him now
The year is 2013. We can rebuild him. We have the technology.
Masturbation is probably really awkward for him now
Well he had a limb transplant so they're not his hands; In which case it's a handjob, not masturbation
Masturbation is probably really awkward for him now
remove 4 ribs and train yourself to bend down low enough for auto-blow job something is wrong with me
In reality, Marrocco won’t have much time on his hands.
That is a fucking good pun.
Wait wait, at first i thought it was just a feel good story about a soldier who got new prosthetic arms but this is an actual ARM TRANSPLANT? That's is just so fucking badass on so many levels.
Is it bad I had no fucking clue you could get an arm transplant? I just need to know if this roof I've been living under is actually a rock.
Is it actually possible for him to learn to use his hands? This is crazy.
This is amazing. Great for the soldier and the brilliant surgeons.
Gotta be awesome to masturbate with a stranger's arms
Gotta be awesome to masturbate with a stranger's arms
stranger in the tub
Is it bad I had no fucking clue you could get an arm transplant? Also it's a soldier so it makes for an even better story.

It is a time of great innovation and technological advancement.
So lets say in a few years he'll be much better and decides to get a tan, do his arms tan differently?
wait. they gave him new usable arms? from a dead person?
wait. they gave him new usable arms? from a dead person?
It's just a little bit of splicing here and there, but hey if it work's no one's complaining.
War does a great job of inventing awesome new things.
Part of me would rather die than live wearing a pair of arms removed from someone else's corpse.
Part of me would rather die than live wearing a pair of arms removed from someone else's corpse.
Heh, part
Part of me would rather die than live wearing a pair of arms removed from someone else's corpse.
well by that time, a part of you probably has died.
