Mars was wiped out by interstellar nuclear war, earth potentially next, claims physicist
Back in 2011 the scientist first postulated that the red colour on Mars could have been due to a naturally occurring thermonuclear explosion.
'The Martian surface is covered with a thin layer of radioactive substances including uranium, thorium and radioactive potassium - and this pattern radiates from a hot spot on Mars,' he told Fox News at the time.
'A nuclear explosion could have sent debris all around the planet.'
I love the daily mail's "science" section.
Oh jeez. It gets even more retarded with the actual source

"But guys, nuclear reactors can form in nature (they can, cool shit), so how hard is it to belive a nuclear bomb cant form as well ? It makes perfect sense when you look at Mars"

Ok, that's one of the better headlines i'v seen in a while
my god, it all fits together
oh wait no it doesn't
Does this gun realise how much nuclear ordnance would be needed to strip the atmosphere from a planet?
Of course he is conveniently releasing a book soon. Gotta have some publicity to drive the sales in

"He told Fox News"
"He told Fox News"
It's the ultimate in journalism, the Daily Mail quoting Fox News' interview of some crackpot trying to plug his book.
Maybe we actually are from Mars but thousand of years ago we literally blowed us back to the stone age and the few who escaped to earth are the father of humanity as we know it
ubisoft should hire me as AC writer
What a fucking retard
And these people are paid for it
Here's his case, set to be published in the Journal of Cosmology and Astrophysics, a journal that just published a study about the Big Bang being a hologram:
EDIT: To be fair I just started reading the hologram paper (cause I thought it was gonna be a bunch of fun) but dude I think this is a legit paper. It's not using hologram in the "maaaan its all a conspiracy hologram by interdimensional aliens" sense.
Basically shame on you, author of article, for just reading the title and not the content.
Wait, is daily mail satire? Or is this literally just the most fucking stupid thing I have ever read on a news site.
The world was plunged into an abyss of nuclear fire and radiation. But it was not, as some had predicted, the end of the world.
Instead, the apocalypse was simply the prologue to another bloody chapter of human history.
*Martian history

To be fair, there are naturally occurring nuclear fission reactors.
Still super wrong though.
holy shit that source article

The actual Daily Mail article title is actually even more fucking batshit than this threads
Holy shit

to be fair, it was on fox news before it was on daily mail
You know for the "Aftermath" of nuclear warfare, you would think you would find some "Reminents" instead of rock. Or you know atleast the smallest trace of nuclear radiation.
Honestly, if it somehow managed to turn out that Mars was once long ago inhabited by a humanoid species that wiped it's ass out in a World War 3 scenario, it would really be a good thing to actually investigate to see how life goes about living after such an exchange.

Well considering that Mars is as dead as a rock gets with no real atmosphere, I think it's pretty safe to say that life wouldn't get on.

Maybe they came here.

In response to the second post..
There was one of those in Africa IIRC.
Here:

Good thing I've been saved by Lord Xenu.
naturally occurring thermonuclear explosion.
That's not too far fetched but this guy is just full of shit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_nuclear_fission_reactor
What if it did not occur naturally :tinfoil:
