Executive orders are not reviewed by Congress, have the authority of law and are typically used to direct the various agencies or departments under the president to take certain actions. Here are some executive orders that have been signed by President Trump during his ܧrst weeks in office. For each of the following, please indicate whether you APPROVE or DISAPPROVE of the executive order. An order prohibiting citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries from being able to enter the United States for 90 days and halting processing of refugees for 120 days.
(of these, only registered voter's opinions were used, which is fair enough) He or his PR team actually modified the site before screen-capping it, changing what the question was.
This is getting downright pathetic, if it wasn't already.
Aren't the questions pretty much exactly the same with different wording? I feel like I'm missing something
Yeah I don't get it, the rewording is really weird (it implies people are agreeing or disagreeing about the order being popular rather than with the order itself) but the poll itself says what Trump is claiming in his tweet.
Aren't the questions pretty much exactly the same with different wording? I feel like I'm missing something
They're not. The real one is asking how many support "An order prohibiting citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries from being able to enter the United States for 90 days and halting processing of refugees for 120 days", and the one trump tweeted is "Immigration Ban Is One Of Trump's Most Popular Orders So Far". He's manipulating the polling question, he modified the source from their site as well. Modifying polling questions is misrepresenting data at best and propaganda at worst.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/Ds43VLn.png[/t] I must be missing something, since what he's saying is mostly true. [editline].[/editline] I can't go through it right now and compare it to his other executive orders, but he seems to be right about the approval for the ban.
what an asshole lmao
For such a controversial executive order, 55% is a pathetic amount of support to be boasting about.
hahaha even his own twitter replies disagree
Yea I'm not really seeing what's wrong with this. He just editorialized the article to have something bite sized that he can tweet.
Yea I'm not really seeing what's wrong with this. He just editorialized the article to have something bite sized that he can tweet.
He literally edited the site and took a screenshot of the modified poll question while under the pretense that it was the same site that conducted the poll. It's straight fucking lying. [editline]8th February 2017[/editline] You might not know this but the exact wording on a poll really, really matters when providing context for the questions.
Like obviously the poll question wasn't "Immigration Ban Is One Of Trump's Most Popular Orders?" [Yes/No] [editline]8th February 2017[/editline] Like I easily read the tweet as saying "55% of voters approve of the immigration ban, thereby making it one of his most popular orders" Not "55% of voters agree that the ban is one of his most popular orders" because that doesn't make any sense.
He literally edited the site and took a screenshot of the modified poll question while under the pretense that it was the same site that conducted the poll. It's straight fucking lying. [editline]8th February 2017[/editline] You might not know this but the exact wording on a poll really, really matters when providing context for the questions.
Except that in this case the wording means the exact same thing on both.
Except that in this case the wording means the exact same thing on both.
If it means the same thing then why did he use the website's header and font and change the title + graph? Oh, I know, it's because he's trying to deliberately misrepresent information, as well as make it difficult to find the original source of the information- an article that states that his popularity is plummeting.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/Ds43VLn.png[/t] I must be missing something, since what he's saying is mostly true.
'Immigration Ban Is One Of Trump's Most Popular Orders So Far'* *According to a "national" poll of 2,070 people.
'Immigration Ban Is One Of Trump's Most Popular Orders So Far'* *According to a "national" poll of 2,070 people.
Oh here we go again...
But he's not misinterpreting anything, the poll in the article says the exact same thing as his tweet does, just in different words.
He is literally by definition misrepresenting the poll and the article. The article was not the one he posted. The one he posted did not exist. The poll question was not the one he posted. It does not exist..
'Immigration Ban Is One Of Trump's Most Popular Orders So Far'* *According to a "national" poll of 2,070 people.
2,000 people is enough to get an insanely accurate number, assuming citizens were randomly selected.
'Immigration Ban Is One Of Trump's Most Popular Orders So Far'* *According to a "national" poll of 2,070 people.
2k if properly sampled is A-OK for a survey. http://stats.stackexchange.com/questions/166/how-do-you-decide-the-sample-size-when-polling-a-large-population I know math is hard but I swear people need to stop complaining about the number of people sampled. However, if the sample is not well made then that goes out the window. So, if you want to question the poll - it is the population sampling technique (not the number in that sample) you should go after.
If it means the same thing then why did he use the website's header and font and change the title + graph? Oh, I know, it's because he's trying to deliberately misrepresent information, as well as make it difficult to find the original source of the information- an article that states that his popularity is plummeting.
Now you're just trying to nitpick. That graph doesn't even appear on the article reporting it anyways. It seems like you're just trying to make a fuss about it because you don't agree or want to believe the poll.
I wasn't aware I was starting something when I posted it. But yeah, you're right, How the poll is sampled is more important.
He is literally by definition misrepresenting the poll and the article. The article was not the one he posted. The one he posted did not exist. The poll question was not the one he posted. It does not exist..
Yes it does? It doesn't exist with that exact same wording, but that doesn't matter, it still means the exact same thing.
This is really sensationalist. While the poll results are troubling, it's the truth nonetheless. The only thing he's changed is the wording of the poll title because it sounds better on Twitter than the long winded description in the poll itself. Childish, yes. False, no.
This is outright propaganda - by definition.
The public is afraid of Muslims, surprise surprise
I wish politicians were ever held accountable for lying
If you read it carefully, it's self-criticism. This editorialized tweet claims 55% approval on an order is his best by far. That puts all his other orders under 50% approval and takes him below a passing grade. You get an F+.
At this rate, I'm going to have to go out and slap the ice cream cones out of the hands of kids that like Trump just so his supporters here don't run out of news stories to post about.
101% ok
Support doesn't indicate legitimacy either way. The ban is based on irrational fearmongering and blatant propaganda. It doesn't solve anything, and it doesn't make anybody any safer. All it does is introduce ugly new problems.
