The issue is controversial in Seoul but, traditionally, it has cut across partisan lines. Conservatives typically say that the South should call out North Korea for rights abuses, even if that raises inter-Korean tensions and lowers the likelihood for dialogue. Liberals tend to place a premium on dialogue, and feel it’s the South’s job to change North Korea’s behavior with engagement — not a hard line. But I was reminded in the course of my reporting that South Korea still hasn’t really figured out its approach to the North, more than 50 years after war split them in two.
Some good ol' politics of South and North Korea for those who are interested.
Honestly I'm usually all about pacifism and anti-war but I really doubt North Korea can be dealt with through politics.
I can't imagine what it's like to live in an industrialized, first world nation that shares a border with a nation that lives in a permanent Stalinist-era timewarp of isolationist insanity.
I believe I have some solutions that could help them.
A. Build a giant wall at the border made completely out of nukes
B. Wait until Samsung makes a new Galaxy that is large enough to block out the sun over North Korea and prevent rockets from reaching space
C. Challenge Kim Chimichang-Un to a Yu-Gi-Oh! battle
There are at least 4 articles on the front page of SH about North Korea. We get about 10 of them a week. Is anyone else sick of hearing from them?
[editline]26th February 2013[/editline]
we should complain to kim-jong-un that he's clogging up our newsfeeds
B-b-b-but mah esports!
i never thought about a country that was so hard to make peace with to the point where it would later have to be dealt with using war.
Can't we just like bomb them with food that is clearly stamped "Courtesy of the United States" in bold, black print?
Wouldn't that solve it?

State would steal it

fuck we Should skip A and B and do C right now
The government would confiscate it and most likely execute anyone caught in possession of it.
Exactly.
And since everyone there is hungry North Korea would wipe itself out and cease to exist.
I think North Korea will be fucked in half a century if they have not already been toppled from within. By 2060 the technology gap will just be so significant, war would be easier in my opinion.

We'll just send one super trooper to waltz casually over the border. He'll absorb bullets like a sponge and vaporize those primitive T-54's by poking them. When he finally reaches the big palace he'll throw Dear Leader into space as though he were throwing a javelin then the trooper will walk into the sunset casually. "All in a days work"

What about a carpet/cluster bombing run (but with food instead of bombs)

Hilariously, it would probably be seen as an act of war.
NK is a ticking time-bomb that can only be defused with careful movement. It might seem easy to invade NK - and from a strategic standpoint, I guess it would be - but with everyone there either held at gunpoint by the indoctrinated or putting a gun to the backs of the unindoctrinated, I feel the casualties would be massive among both the civilian and military populace.
It seems a hardline approach is just going to aggravate North Korea, and when they've got artillery on Seoul, that would perhaps be the worst way of going about defusing the situation. I know a peaceful resolution seems impossible right about now, but as far as I'm concerned, there is no other option.

Honestly the whole 'omg north korea is declaring war again' doesn't really affect our lives within the cities. It's only when North Korea actually does something that shocks us, like for example that nuclear test a week ago which was on the news all day, or the shelling of that Island a few years ago.
Just a bit of info from a Seoul dweller :P
They're probably asking them to elaborate on what "Final Destruction" means.
Give it a small start like:
"You stop making us look like idiots for a bit,we send you food and suggestions to stop starvation."

I think anyone that would prefer a violent solution OVER trying something peaceful is a dickhead, but in this case, NK is only going to listen to force.

Waiting for Samsung to make such a big phone would take at least 2 years. I don't think that's the solution here.

North Korea is going to lose any war against it.
But no matter what day or age, there are going to be a lot of deaths.
Honestly I'm usually all about pacifism and anti-war but I really doubt North Korea can be dealt with through politics.
Well, a war would likely leave the peninsula in ruins for generations. At this point, one can really only hope that NK collapses from the inside, and even that's gonna leave a lot of North Koreans dead.

AFAIK, the State says the food aid is a tribute to North Korea, because everyone else is afraid of North Korea's "power".
to be honest the most worrying thing about any kind of remote conflict with NK is that they ARE crazy enough to use nukes.

Except using the nukes is basic suicide for North Korea as they'll probably get NATO dropping on there heads like a brick
they prolly dont know this tho

the problem is because NK is so isolated and has so few people on their side, they seem likely to use the nukes as a last resort.

i think what happens immediately after the nuke is dropped is p. much irrelevant
i think what happens immediately after the nuke is dropped is p. much irrelevant
what happens immediately after the nuke is dropped is pretty much anyone within range of or capable of seeing the blast itself is pretty much 99.9% fucked sixteen thousand ways from sunday. and pretty much the entire east is also guaranteed to get gang-fucked from the fallout.
[editline]27th February 2013[/editline]
both the literal radioactive fallout and the political fallout.
[editline]27th February 2013[/editline]
that's assuming they would nuke themselves in a "taking you with me" move.

All of them, in that order.
