using 'mind control' in a general sense could take any number of forms, from propaganda to specially created drugs in order to make people more like what governments want them to be (Productive and complacent)
BUT: Apparently there is an actual debate considering some in the thread consider the 'anti racism' pill to be 'good', but where would you draw the line between 'good' and 'sweet jesus theres tracking devices in my fillings'

Gosh dang Tau sympathizers, stealing our Emperor-given freedom!
Direct and mechanical mind control is inefficient in it's base. A much better way of control would be through the individual's own will.

Like north korea?
The debate in question revolves around the idea of ethics, Is it WRONG to control the peoples minds, or simply leave them uncontrolled.
Advertising is based on unconscious association and mindfuckery in general.
So the debate is whether or not we should continue to embrace and reward it.
There's no such thing as 'good' mind control, people being able to form their own opinions and conclusions is necessary for any change to occur in society.
(And I think it's fair to say the world as it is now should be changed in fundamental ways.)

But if there was a magic pill to make people embrace those ideals, and you had the power to enforce and ensure its usage, would you do it?

I personally wouldn't, and I would trust anyone else to.

You mean you would trust anyone else not to abuse said power if it was on offer?
I sure as hell wouldn't.
Politics is in my opinion the most humane form of mind control.
Convince people what to believe in by expressing your belief and allowing them to choose to follow you.
Now I don't mean politicians, everyone knows that they like horses are inherently evil.
I mean politics as a theory, a way you want the world to work. Politics work more like religion should, a suggestion to how the world should work, that does not advertise itself as the only correct choice, that is not forced onto you as a child, and that you can openly debated whether it's right or wrong.
Well, mind control could have its benefits if we assume the one person in charge has a good plan and isn't doing it for the evulz. Humanity could achieve goals bigger than itself because for once people stop fighting each other and tearing down each others attempts at something great because they're all in a competition (and sabotaging your opponent can often be more rewarding than improving your own work).
On the flipside of course you got the ethical questions, first and foremost being that if you're brainwashed and are made to accept completely different beliefs, are you still the same person or has your mind been de facto killed and replaced with a different person? Even if you could reverse the effect, I don't doubt people would - intended or not - start tearing down what they accomplished through complete unity. So once you brainwashed people for a better cause, is there any turning back without compromising your goal?
Still, if somebody could brainwash the planet, I think we could achieve some great feats. But there's only one person left to honestly appreciate it.

It's pointless changing anything without the people coming to a consensus and understanding of why something must be done in such a way, chances are they will revert to their previous ways out of habit.

The point is as long as you exert your control they won't.
Functionally achieving right, Through a method that is 'wrong'

It's better to have people who think for themselves, even if they disagree with you than zombies who can be used for anyone's own personal devices.
Now when you get to the topic of a pill that forces people to think for themselves I think that would be a necessary evil and ultimately better for humanity as a whole.
