Im from the UK. so insurance is an issue, but ive been on a ped for a year and since my NCB isnt transferable to a car would insurance be cheaper on the bike, and if so what bikes are good for first time riders (Ped isnt nearly the same as a bike obviously)? I also like the idea of a car though, i want something around 1.2L and something that has potential for me to tune and modify?
I'm not in the UK, so for more clarification I'd wait for someone who is to come along. However, I can say that I'd definitely recommend a car if you're a young driver who wants some transportation, for a few reasons:
-A car is inherently safer than a bike. Not having to worry about someone seeing you while you're learning how to navigate roads will be a major step up from being on a bike and having someone pull out in front of you.
-Cars are more practical in the long run. You can carry more and travel more comfortably
You can always pick up a bike later once you've learned how to get around and all that. Also, from what I've heard, you won't want to modify a car if you're young. It seems UK insurers frown on that sort of thing.

What they dont know, wont hurt em :) thanks for the reply, ive got the experience on the road with a bike (Ped) so i know the risks, but they dont really bother me too much. Thanks though :D

Pretty sure that if you don't tell them about modifications, they can terminate your cover. Also, if you did have a crash, those modified parts wouldn't be covered as you haven't specified with your insurance.
I have a friend who has got a 1.2 2001 Corsa, Nice car. XRS Model, so it's a bit sportier, he paied around £2800 for his first year. He has a black box which tracks his steering, speed and braking. If he drives well, he gets discounted, but it also works the other way round too.
I'm planning on buying a 125cc bike and take my CBT asap purely for the fact insurance is a joke with cars. I'm lucky enough to have a nice car but insurance just isn't worth it. I'm going to be looking at Honda CBR125R's which used, seem to cost around £1,200 - £1,700. Friend has a 2007 model that cost him £400 for a years insurance TPFT.
Cars are obviously more practical and safer, however cost alot more in the long run and some may argue that they are not as fun.

What.
Most bikes are in fact 4-stroke.
Aren't 2 strokes getting ruled out soon?
