It is being reported today that a German court ruling has granted Motorola Mobility an injunction against the distribution of Microsoft products in the country, including the Xbox 360 console, Windows 7 software, Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player. The ban follows a court ruling that found Microsoft in violation of two patents involving H.264 video coding and playback. Conversely, a US court has banned Motorola from any action until the matter is considered next week. In a statement following the German ruling, Motorola said: "We are pleased that the Mannheim Court found that Microsoft products infringe Motorola Mobility's intellectual property. As a path forward, we remain open to resolving this matter. Fair compensation is all that we have been seeking for our intellectual property." Microsoft plans to appeal the German ruling. "This is one step in a long process, and we are confident that Motorola will eventually be held to its promise to make its standard essential patents available on fair and reasonable terms for the benefit of consumers who enjoy video on the web," a Microsoft spokesman said. "Motorola is prohibited from acting on today's decision, and our business in Germany will continue as usual while we appeal this decision and pursue the fundamental issue of Motorola's broken promise."
Holy shit Motorola, what you doin'?
As a path forward, we remain open to resolving this matter.
That's like throwing someone's windows in with a brick and say that you're open to discussing how much you're gonna pay for the windows.
Already posted I believe
corporate intellectual property is total bs, it should belong to the inventor and his team
Sucks for germans, now not only games are banned but also gaming platforms too. Oh well, they still got mac and ps3
Motorola can suck it. They won't listen to anybody about hardware policies and they constantly half-ass updates.
Welp, corporate wars are abusing our legal systems and copyright laws. Something has to be done. I'm going to now actively sit down the next hour and think of ways to combat this trend, and if I think up something brilliant I'll be vocal and active about it.
Oh wow. OH WOW. I feel sorry for the german people. I fucking hope this shit doesn't spread to the rest of Europe.

Bit of an inaccurate title, is it not? "Motorola is prohibited from acting on today's decision, and our business in Germany will continue as usual while we appeal this decision and pursue the fundamental issue of Motorola's broken promise." There's been quite a few cases like this for a few companies, no product bans in the technology patent shitstorm have been enforced yet iirc (except for Microsoft having to ship copies of Windows without IE in parts of Europe)

I believe it just means that they can't start campaigning to replace Microsoft or something.

At some point it will become so bad it will be fixed.
This is why it is a real shame that H.264 won the HTML 5 war.
I fucking hope this shit doesn't spread to the rest of Europe.
Na, Germany's pretty alone in being an European country that grant software patents, as far as I know. Thank god.
Wait Windows 7 too?
As always, the lawyers are making the real money here...
I give Germany a month before they reconsider.
