After a good number of delays, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is finally coming together, and today marks the official start of production on the film. To celebrate this big moment for the blockbuster franchise, the Walt Disney Company has officially revealed the movie’s plot synopsis, cluing us in to what we can expect from this next chapter in the life of Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow.
The synopsis came packaged in a press release announcing the start of production, and you can see the entire thing word-for-word below:
Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea...including him. Captain Jack's only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
While this official plot synopsis obviously does the best job driving home exactly what Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is about, it’s interesting to add this information to what has been leaked out in recent months. Reports have said that Javier Bardem’s Captain Salazar has a particular bone to pick with Jack Sparrow, as the villain is on the hunt for revenge for the death of his brother (which Captain Jack is apparently responsible for). That certainly will help keep the plot focused, as killing every pirate is kind of a big job and making Sparrow an important target will keep the story centered on him.
Directors Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning are at the helm of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which is now filming Village Roadshow Studios and on locations in Queensland, Australia. It’s unclear exactly how long production is expected to last, but the film has been dated for release on July 7, 2017.
Hopefully it will be better than the last one.
Pirates of the Caribbean 4 destroyed everything that made Jack Sparrow an interesting character. Hopefully this reins it in a bit.
Sounds pretty fuckin' cool.
I will remain cautiously neutral to this.
How many nemesis's does Jack Sparrow even have at this point?
this feels less of 1700's show with some fantasy and now more of show with mostly fantasy to the point of 1700's stuff is fantasy.
Probably should have stopped after the first one tbh

I think everyone who has come in contact with him would classify him as an enemy/nemesis
At this point, the next movie's nemsises (nemesi?) will be the audience. Pirates of the Carribean will bring back to life the majestic gimmick of 3D, just wait and see!
I'm looking forward for the great cinematography the movies all have.
I like the movies.
The first was phenomenal
The second was okay
The third was crap
The fourth was garbage
I don't have high hopes for #5

Ok you guys are literally running out of ideas at this point.

I liked On Stranger Tides
I'm pretty excited for this, fucking love pirates
I think everyone who has come in contact with him would classify him as an enemy/nemesis
He has his uses. From the original trilogy I got the impression that his enemies don't want him dead, but instead would rather get even and use him later in some way.
I liked On Stranger Tides
I liked it more that 2 and 3 because it doesn't have the Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley storyline.

The 4th movie was pretty shitty but I thought Jack and Barbosa were still awesome

Good characters, terrible plot.
I think a prequel at this point would actually be better suited. They've sure set up a whole mess of back-story for Jack they can run around in, and it'd probably end up better than just piling shit on to the franchise like it seems they're doing now.
I liked all of them 1v1 me Puzzle Pirates

I am legitimately surprised we never got a young Jack cartoon. Tron Legacy and Star Wars got cartoon prequels.

In the first three films you're not sure if Jack was crazy, lucky, or both. On Stranger Tides throws that all away by making him omnipotent and letting him escape any situation through a series of events so convoluted it'd make your head spin.
I haven't seen it since it was in theaters but remember that dinner scene? He throws a handkerchief/napkin behind him, and like five minutes later in the scene it takes a part in his massive escape plan when one of the badguys slips on it, falling out of a window, giving Jack the leverage he needs to escape. It was ridiculous even by Jack Sparrow standards.
Not to mention the boring mermaid shit and the misuse of Blackbeard, On Stranger Tides was a mess.

Some Disney executive probably thinks it would cannibalize interest of the Disney Junior show 'Jake and the Never Land Pirates' or something.
If we have to sit through another boring one like 3 and 4, at least bring back Davy Jones for something worth watching.

At World's End was just as good if not better than Dead Man's Chest. Especially musically.
I really like Dead Mans Chest and think it's a strong start to a story that ends shittily. Davy Jones is a great character with a great design, the music is fucking fantastic. The only good part of At Worlds End was the intro with the hanging.
i always thought the third movie was the best one, like they got progressively better
the fourth one was okay, but it didn't feel like a pirates of a caribbean movie
I liked it more that 2 and 3 because it doesn't have the Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley storyline.
That's a main reason I found the fourth to be really enjoyable. Their character development in the third film had me rolling my eyes in the back of my skull. I didn't mind them in the first or second film, I'm just really glad they got snipped out though.
