Looks adorable and functional! How does it avoid trees and obstacles though? Maybe it doesn't?
$500
EDIT:
Currently, Lily does not have any obstacle avoidance capabilities. We have found that most outdoor activities do not need obstacle avoidance because Lily can follow the user's path. But again, there are no guarantees that Lily will not hit anything while it is following you. If Lily is about to hit an object you can press the middle button on the tracking device and Lily will stop, hold its position, and continue to film you.
Then you forget that it ran out of batteries and throw it off a bridge, yay!
$500? Not bad at all.
Oculus Rift Third Person when?
(absolutely no practical use whatsoever but oh well)
Film students eat your hearts out
When does the $499 pre-sale price end?
We are selling the Lily Camera for $499 until June 15th, then it will progressively increase up to the regular retail price of $999.
Still cool, would think of buying it at $500, at $1000 - not so interesting.
Could use a little more flight time but other than that holy shit
If I got outside, I'd buy this.
If I also had $500 I'd buy this.
My new waifu
That's really neat.
It reminds me of scifi movies where they have flying drones that they just throw and it flies away to do its thing

Honestly that's the norm for drones. Since they need to keep it lightweight and it would take a miracle advancement in tech to get better battery times.
Damn, I had this exact idea and was planning to make it over summer! I figured it wouldn't be long before someone else did it...
Cool product, but marketed at the same people gopros originally were. I'm not doing any crazy stunts outdoors that's worth the purchase, but it's a cool concept for what will soon be cheap and open source and marketed to people like me who just want cool camera toys.
Now if you give this thing some functional circular saw blades, you've got yourself a real life manhack.
I gasped when he chucked it in the water
500$? I paid more to build my own drone, except its Radio controlled.
Great, now when I go to the snow there's going to be thousands of these things flying around.
Likely they would be banned though in some resorts, as they would crash into chair lifts if not careful.
A friend cant fly tho?
This would be way better to use than a GoPro. I hope these get even better.
I'm trying to think of something outside I do that would be worth buying this thing. It looks really fun but I can't think of anything.
Give me excuses!
Give it a personality, and it'll be your flying R2D2
That is so fucking cool.
Kinda sad that it doesn't have a manual mode as well, otherwise it's pretty neat.

There was a video of an "experiment" like that except they used normal cameras or something. Everyone said it was really weird and confusing to control yourself in third person.
Awesome. This would be excellent for a lot of sport shots.
Shame I don't go outside.
We pre-ordered one of these for the drift team I'm shooting videos for. The plan is to put the tracking device on the roof of the car, and have the drone following it, but we won't get it until 2016 so it's very exciting!

Solution - small bit of battery reserved for a few seconds of panic flight
