Three young women in southern Russia will serve up to 15 days in prison, on charges of hooliganism, after posting a video of themselves performing the hip-hop dance on YouTube, with a war memorial looming in the background. Two more of the six women in the video had their punishments reduced to a fine, for health reasons. One of the dancers was under 16, and avoided punishment, which was transferred to her mother, who was reprimanded for failing to “carry out measures to ensure the proper physical, intellectual, psychological, spiritual and moral development of the child," a court in the city of Novorossiysk ruled on Saturday.
http://rt.com/news/253049-twerking-novorossiysk-women-prison/
More nationalistic repression out of Russia. I don't have very high hopes for that country looking at the way things are going.
reprimanded for failing to "carry out measures to ensure the proper physical, intellectual, psychological, spiritual and moral development of the child"
Because she was dancing? This was hardly even twerking. WWII statue behind them or not, either way this sounds fucking archaic.
I wanted to agree if they were doing some stupidly overly-sexified dumb shit near a memorial, but after checking out the video I must say that they dance really nicely and I fail to see what was wrong about it. Just Russia being "Anti-Western" again, retards.
Just Russia being "Anti-Western" again, retards.
how is this being anti western

Justified, hate that stupid shit.
how is this being anti western
General Russian populace sees this sort of stuff as "western values forced into mader rassia". I'm not joking. [editline]26th April 2015[/editline]
How about you just respect memorials
I dont get your point.
How about you just respect memorials
They don't really disrespect it. It's not like they're bootygrinding on the giant bronze crotches of the soldiers or anything. They found a beautiful and well-known landmark and decided to use it as background for their relatively well-produced video.

What if they would've done a porn shoot with that memorial very obviously in the background, or BEING the background even.
Also, somewhat unrelated, but is it just me or has twerking gotten a lot less obnoxious lately? I remember I used to hate it a year or two ago when it was all about making it look like your ass and your body were two separate entities operating within their own, detached section of the Newtonian laws; but these days it seems more like an actual dance woven in with other moves. I dunno, maybe it's just growing on me.

[editline]26th April 2015[/editline] I dont get your point.
You realise how seriously Russians take WW2? I mean considering 20 million Soviet citizens died in WW2, of fucking course they're going to be pissed off at people dancing around a memorial and I do not blame them at all
How about you just respect memorials
1. How was this even disrespectful? 2. They should have the right to go out of their way to purposely disrespect the memorial if they wanted to. Being jailed for anti government speech (which is essentially what this is) is an atrocious breach of free expression.
1. How was this even disrespectful?
It's a difference in cultures and ethics. You're American so you have a different perspective on this. But Eastern Europeans are more sensitive about such subjects.

But Eastern Europeans are more sensitive about such subjects.
Obviously these women didn't think so. Is their expression invalid because of "Eastern European culture" or whatever bullshit excuse you want to make for this? Why do people need to obey by some arbitrary cultural standards anyway, even if they do exist?
Waving your ass around world war two memorials.

They didn't think so, so they should disrespect the local customs? Why do you think there was a big fuzz about Pussy Riot's church encounter?
That's some weak twerk
How is this disrespectful? I mean I understand that it's a WWII Memorial but what they are doing in the video is harmless, they aren't insulting the Memorial, they are just dancing in front of it. Some could even say it's a celebration of them cause if it wasn't for them, we might not have the stuff we have today. Seriously tho, this is harmless, shouldn't have arrested them, and if they were offended, just give them a fine, if I got a fine then I wouldn't do it again.

Dancing infront of a memorial is a really disrespectful thing to do according to Turks, Russians, etc.
Can't the girls and the authorities twerk something out?
that was a nice dance and that memorial looks cool as fuck i'd dance in front of it too. [editline]27th April 2015[/editline]
Can't the girls and the authorities twerk something out?
ew
If you can't figure out why this is disrespectful then you're probably autistic (User was banned for this post ("Shitposting" - BANNED USER))
If you can't figure out why this is disrespectful then you're probably autistic
Or they're just from a different culture where such a thing can be considered normal. Yet it's not normal over here, so users such as Explosions should not be quick to judge.
and dancing isn't a disrespectful act? like, the whole "dance on ur grave" insult is more like, "i am happy that u are dead thus my dance" but dance is just an expression and all that i can tell from this dance is joy being expressed and that joy doesn't seem to be targeted AT the dead soldiers or whatever. i understand the desire for solemnity in defined sacred spaces but solemnity loses all genuineness when enforced with anything else punished by the powers that be. i dunno, the state punishing individuals for simply dancing is just weird but also sounds like it could be an awesome story for a funky dystopia musical
Disrespectful or not, this shouldn't be grounds for jail/prison time.
If you can't figure out why this is disrespectful then you're probably autistic
hahaha did you like get angry watching the dance? I understand it's ANZAC weekend so if your flag is to be followed i can dig that you're still in respect mode but c'mon bro. jailtime for a dance video is fucked regardless of how disrespectful it can be seen as. both my grandfathers fought in worldwar 2 and i know for A FACT that they were doing it for my freedom to boogie down without fear of fascist fun police
As I mentioned earlier, difference in cultures and ethics. Dancing infront of a memorial is a really disrespectful thing to do according to Turks, Russians, etc.
'It's disrespectful' is such a stupid reason to arrest someone.
If you can't figure out why this is disrespectful then you're probably autistic
you'd be surprised at how many people wouldn't really get offended over attractive women shaking their asses anywhere
You realise how seriously Russians take WW2? I mean considering 20 million Soviet citizens died in WW2, of fucking course they're going to be pissed off at people dancing around a memorial and I do not blame them at all
You realise you're talking to a Russian? I do not see anything offensive in that dance. If it was bordering on striptease or some other overly-sexualized shit, I'd be supportive of their choice of action, but this shit just reeks of stupidity. [editline]26th April 2015[/editline]
Why do you think there was a big fuzz about Pussy Riot's church encounter?
That's a very different and irrelevant case. And I must say I support Russia for prosecuting them, however the penalty for them was absurdly high.
