MILLIS — A small town teeming with law enforcement searching for a fugitive gunman became one searching for answers after police said Thursday the officer who claimed he was fired on by a passing pickup truck driver had fabricated the account. Residents of this pastoral suburb of roughly 8,000, who endured a lock-down that lasted more than six hours and included the closing of schools, were left mystified and saddened as to how and why one of their own concocted such a story. The officer — a 24-year-old who was working as a full-time dispatcher and as a part-time patrolman — was scheduled to begin training for a full-time patrol position soon, according to police.
Source: Boston Globe I work in Medfield, which is the town they first thought the suspect fled to. Everyone in town got a reverse 911 call about this. I thought it was fishy immediately because cars don't just explode from gunshots...
Seems like there's a lot of stories about young, immature cops taking advantage of their power. My friend recently became a cop and he's a fucking idiot. Two (under ~25, keep in mind) in the area were recently arrested, one over pornography and the other over something else really stupid It's like this generation really has no standards at all

Must mean this generation is shit!!! No, that isn't how it works. Stupid shit like this happens all the time at any job, its called being scared and covering your ass because you made a mistake. It happens at every job, only difference is this career field gets more news coverage then your local forklift driver at walmart. This cop got scared, clearly was fresh and was under a lot of stress. What he did was criminal, which he is being charged an dealt with accordingly. You can't ask for any more. He is a fucking moron, but i highly doubt he was trying to take advantage of power, seeing as he hardly had any. Not everything needs to be super deep and about abuse of power or that generational garbage.
I'm pretty sure this isn't the first instance of an authority lying to cover up, and I'd probably go as far as to say it's not the first time it's been done in a meathead fashion.

They are better now, if anything. People just care about this stuff more these days.
