OP lift some heavy shit on the side, you don't want to have the body of a 12 y/o girl when you lose all the weight.
I think my body mass is already to big to portray a 12 y/o girl, even if I do lose the 40 pounds :D - But I do have a Gym membership, however, the distance to get there is very costly.. Home workouts would be ideal

So basically, you say you want a change. All is fine and dandy.
But then you go; "I've got money issues" and you expect the world to change itself in order to fit your needs. You want to truly lose weight? for all I care, you can walk an hour and a half to the gym. That's what I call dedication.
You contradict yourself. Stop over-analyzing things and start putting your "wants" where they should be and your issues where they should be. Those are not and should not be standing at the same position.
When I need to get those miles in order to lose the lard I will get those miles either by walking and kissing the gym door or improving my work ethic and getting a job to pay for my lazy ass not wanting to walk as if walking is something so absurd we as humans experience.

Well, in the long run, weightlifting will yield more results than running, and we all know excessive running can be bad for you.
I don't necessarily agree with excessive running can be bad for you. As long as you eat right and run as much as you want, you will just have improved cardio.
But, my friend i met this year in weightlifting, hes pretty weak and fat, but hes hilarious and nice.
He showed me a picture of him last year, he was around 280 pounds, 5'9 or so, now hes around 170 or 160, still got a lot of fat, but he has lost A LOT of weight.
I love seeing progress man.

Well, not to be rude, but
if your naturally that big, then your naturally also built to be big.
So instead of just trying to become a twig, just work out a lot, and do cardio also, while eating right. Then you lose fat, and gain muscle, and meet in the golden area in the middle.
I'm not trying to be a twig I do work-out, at home, basic shit. That's why I said home work-outs were ideal for me :D
each person has their own goals here, so stop pushing this idea of "RUN BAD, LIFT GOOD" on this dude. if weightlifting isn't on his agenda, then just leave him be. he's obviously very passionate about running so just let him do his own thing. plus he isn't directly asking for advice, OP only states that tips and suggestions are welcome. so if he doesn't want to take your advice, then grow the fuck up.
