• York mosque counters EDL protest with tea, biscuits and football - Ouch right in the English
A York mosque dealt with a potentially volatile situation after reports that it was going to be the focus of a demonstration organised by a far-right street protest movement - by inviting those taking part in the protest in for tea and biscuits. Around half a dozen people arrived for the protest, promoted online by supporters of the EDL. A St George's flag was nailed to the wooden fence in front of the mosque. However, after members of the group accepted an invitation into the mosque, tensions were rapidly defused over tea and plates of custard creams, followed by an impromptu game of football. [...] Ismail Miah, president of York mosque, added: "Under the banner of Islam there are very different politics: democratic politics, the far right, left, central, all over. You can't target a whole community for what one or two people have done.
Henderson's Relish Sauce: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2013/may/27/york-mosque-protest-tea-biscuits Some more encouraging news after the last week.
Ouch, right in the English
it's fun and games until the more committed members of the EDL come in and forget the custard creams, going straight into smashing the place up. [editline]28th May 2013[/editline] wait hang this is a 6 person protest that made national news.
Local news.
oh aye
Local news.
The Guardian is a national newspaper.
York has always been a pretty nice place, so I'm not surprised about this, it's always been enjoyable when I've been there.
Go to york uni, very friendly place.
Been to York once, nice soothing place.
That kid was one hell of a smug face.
Good news, also did you see that Help for Heroes rejected donations from the EDL.. their beloved armed forces don't even agree with them.. haha http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2013/may/27/help-for-heroes-english-defence-league
now that's just fucking stupid
now that's just fucking stupid
Its pretty normal charity behaviour... so.
"Under the banner of Islam there are very different politics: democratic politics, the far right, left, central, all over. Although I still dislike the religion there are some sects I have some respect for.
now that's just fucking stupid
It's called not taking dirty money.
now that's just fucking stupid

"It is the same for any political party, we do not allow political fundraising. As a charity, we are non-political."
It's standard from Help for Heroes.

The thing about people protesting mosques (or any religious institution regarding extremism) is the Church/Mosque etc etc are AGAINST extremism/violence, the extremists are in another sect altogether.
